mrubing Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 I've gotten the Downtown Sheraton ( The one on queen st.) from hotwire before for about $85 and I was hoping to get it for the evening of 2/22/11 but when I looked on hotwire, all the amenities that would signal Sheraton were missing. There also weren't any 4* hotels in the Sheraton section anymore. After hearing about Priceline and reading about it on this forum, I thought I would give bidding a try. What's the best approach to bidding for a 4* hotel in Downtown south? Is there anyway to specify amenities when bidding (i.e. a pool or fitness centre)???I want to get a nice downtown hotel, preferably easily accessible to transit and with a fitness centre..... any tips? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)There is no way to bid for a particular property or ensure particular amenities when using PRICELINE. You are bidding on a particular star rating and area or areas. For example, if you bid for a 4* in Downtown South, you have to be willing to accept any 4* property in the zone. You can read more about the service at this I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire link. Please provide your desired budget per night and which zones you would be interested in bidding for.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mrubing Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 I was looking into downtown north and south (preferably south), and I was hoping on getting a hotel for under 100/night total (including tx).Are there any general rules of thumb for bidding? For example, should I bid 1/2 the regular rate...I've never tried Priceline before, so sorry for the noob questions :sThanks
thereuare Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Are you willing to pay more for a hotel in the South zone vs. the North zone OR is your goal the least expensive 4* hotel in either zone? Also, you'll need to know about re-bidding which is detailed here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. Please take the time to read it and see if you can determine your TEN re-bid zones when bidding 4* in Toronto (if you read the previous thread and are confused just post back and we'll break it down for you)Lastly, what is your maximum bid price (before taxes and fees)?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mrubing Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 My goal is to get the least expensive 4* hotel in downtown. My first preference is to be south, but I would take a 4* north over a 3.5* south hotel.I read the re-bidding info... I just want to clarify one thing...would I be able to bid 10 times in 24 hours as long as I add in one of the 10 areas that don't have a 4* hotel (i.e. Vaughan?) Couldn't I have more than 10 bids by bidding on the North and south zone, as well as one of the non 4* zones AND another non 4* zone.... so now instead of bidding on 3 zones I would be bidding on 4.... I'm not sure if that made sense...My max bid would be $95 before taxes and feesThanks
thereuare Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 My goal is to get the least expensive 4* hotel in downtown. My first preference is to be south...Let me re-phrase the question... do you prefer to bid up to your limit in the Downtown South zone, then if rejected start over and bid up to your limit in the Downtown North zone OR take the least expensive 4* hotel in the Downtown South or Downttown North zone (so although you may prefer the Downtown South zone, you're not necessarily willing to pay more to stay in the South zone vs. the North zone)With 10 re-bid zones you have plenty of re-bid zones options, that's not going to be the issue... please clarify the above, as well as your maximum bid price, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
