Atko Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 This one always appears on Hotwire amongst the Edinburgh (City Centre) hotels for about $91-$93.Ammenities are: Complimentary breakfast and internet. With those ammenities I'm presuming it's a Holiday Inn Express, of which there are 3 in Edinburgh: City Centre, Royal Mile, and Waterfront. Each have 4/5 T/A so even if that appears, it doesn't help. The matching hotels identified in your list of hotels are Royal Mile and Waterfront.I don't want to get Waterfront because I want to be in the city, so I would prefer either Royal Mile or City Centre.I think I can be pretty well guaranteed it's not Waterfront, because at $91 per night, after taxes that rate would be more expensive than booking directly with the Holiday Inn Express Waterfront themselves, and Hotwire have their "Lowest Price Guarantee".Do you agree, and if so, is it a 50/50 bet as to the two remaining ones, or is one more probable? At that Hotwire rate, I'm only saving $20 in total for the two nights if it's the Royal Mile which is hardly worth the exercise ... but I would be saving $100 if it's City Centre (compared to Holiday Inn Express prices) which is much more of bargain. Do Hotwire put up hotels where the saving is only a mere $20?If anyone has any experience with either, are both equally convenient and comparable if I got either, or is one better than the other?Thank you.
yellowdog Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 You know how to pick the hotels :) My answer/thoughts here would be pretty much the same as in your London thread. We have nothing to go on. So my answer would be that you're looking at a 50/50 bet here. The City Centre is never reported to the board. But at this point are we only speculate without any substance.I think I can be pretty well guaranteed it's not Waterfront, because at $91 per night, after taxes that rate would be more expensive than booking directly with the Holiday Inn Express Waterfront themselves, and Hotwire have their "Lowest Price Guarantee".This is why HOTWIRE got the guarantee. But i understand how you think and i agree with you. But we don'w know.Do Hotwire put up hotels where the saving is only a mere $20?Yes they do. For a 5 night stay is this $100.The most important thing is that you need to be ok with the location for the hotels. Looking at the TA rating tells me that they are equal in quality and standard. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link, and let us know how it goes or if you need any additional help with your stay.Yellowdog.
Atko Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks again Yellowdog. I took on board your very good advice about the most important thing was being happy with the location of either hotel. (The Royal Mile and the City Centre to me are equally well situated and convenient in the middle of the city- so that solved that!)Llke you rightly said, they're both of the same standard so in the end it didn't really matter which one (just as long as it wasn't going to be the Waterfront). It was the Holiday Inn Express Royal Mile. Very happy with that as it looks lovely and it's where I want to be in Edinburgh. It dropped down to $90 when I booked it through your link. I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights, so all in all I got where I wanted to be and saved $55 I otherwise wouldn't have saved. There's a free dinner out! Thanks for your help.
yellowdog Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your result with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to book this :) Good to see that you're happy with the outcome.Enjoy your stay and free dinner :) Yellowdog.
