torontoontario Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 I am looking for stay in Amsterdam during 05/06/11-05/08/11, for 4* hotel, I am looking for $70 per night. City Center-Museum Quarter area. Can you give me some advise?Thereuare, thank you again for helping me bidding in Paris.
BacSi Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Other than try $70 I am not sure of any good advice. Well except to be prepared to go higher.$70 was a great bid last year at this time. It may have even been a higher than needed bid for an AMS 4*.Those days are now gone.I'd be thinking somewhere from $70-$85 or so. Unless of course you run into a really busy weekend.Good Luck
torontoontario Posted February 13, 2011 Author Report Posted February 13, 2011 Thank you very much, I will try and report here.
thereuare Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 To confirm... $70 is your maximum bid?Rates do looks somewhat high for these dates and i don't think that $70 is going to be enough but if you want to give it a try:At the 4* level you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* City Center-Museum Quarter...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected let us know if you have a revised maximum bid and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. torontoontario Posted February 14, 2011 Author Report Posted February 14, 2011 Thank you, I tried $75 tonight with no luck.
thereuare Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please remember to use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. torontoontario Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 the best deal on that date is $205, would you please tell me how much will be on priceline?thank you.
thereuare Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 With hotel direct rates at $200+ your current bidding is well under half of prevailing rates and will likely take substantially more than this. With your best deal for a 4* hotel at over $200/nite, how high are you willing to bid on PRICELINE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. torontoontario Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 I tried $95.00 last night with no luck, and I even put centre north as a free bid zone, and I want to try $100.00 tonight. what is your suggestion?Thank you.
thereuare Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 With time on your side you can try $95 and $100 (or $5 more than your last bid and then another $5 for your re-bid) but you're probably looking more in the $135 +/- area then you are at the $100 area. What is your maximum budget for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. torontoontario Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 I bided 4* up to $110 with free rebid zone North with no luck. Then bided 5* up to *125 with free rebid zone North and Airport, be rejected as well.I will bid again with $5 more tomorrow. Thanks a lot.
Romelle Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Hotwire 4* Central is $163 for each night. Just so you know your absolute worst case. And usually Priceline is somewhat less expensive than Hotwire. If the dollar were to strengthen against the euro, that would help you. I think this far out, I'd not go up to my absolute maximum. Lots of things can change in a few months. But it could be a good plan to find some cancelable back-up reservation.Romelle
torontoontario Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Thank you very much.I tried $128 for 4*, and$155 for 5* last night with no luck, and I guess I have to try $140+ for 4* tonight. any opinion?
BacSi Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Try a 5 for $160. Not your exact dates----but somewhat close----I just saw a 5 star win at that pricepoint. Worth a try anyway. I think---but would have to re-check to be sure----it was the Aramath they have.
torontoontario Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 or maybe I should think about 3*?
torontoontario Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 there is "top secret hotel" $251.68 for the two night I stay, should I book it from there? any risk? 3 left?Thank you very much.
thereuare Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 The link you provided is to a consolidator... what website does it take you to after you click the link? (as i don't see the price you're quoting)You don't mention that star rating of the hotel, but it will come down to whether they inflate their star ratings, and if so, by how much. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I've never heard of them, but as i noted above, the risk is probably their criteria as to what constitutes a 4* hotel... i'd expect a 3* and be happy with anything better than that. N0LID Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Looking at the description and number of rooms (408) it appears to be the Movenpick. I'm looking for about the same time frame and if this is the correct hotel it would be perfect for us, walking distance from the train station. If you find out what hotel this is please post. Thanks
torontoontario Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 I tried $135 for 4* with no luck, then $160 for 5* with no luck as while.what should I do? go down to 3*?Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel offered in the City Centre-Museum Quarter zone for $162/nite. It has a 90% recommendation from HOTWIRE users and a 4.0/5.0 Tripavisor rating, both of which are pretty good. The 'downside' is that when looking at the breakdown of HOTWIRE comments, it ranks well on all counts (4.5 across the board) except for location, for which is gets 3.5, which tells me it's probably on the perimeter of the zone rather then in the center. Depending upon your needs for this stay, could this be an option? If not, whether you continue to increase your PRICELINE bid or lower your star rating comes down to your budget and needs for this stay, and what you like/expect from your hotel stays, but do keep in mind that a 3* in Europe may be closer to a 2*/2.5* in the United States. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. torontoontario Posted February 23, 2011 Author Report Posted February 23, 2011 Thank you all for helping me here. After been rejected by priceline late night, I booked hotel from the link that I gave above, got a confirmation this morning, it is Movenpick, for euro99 per night, total come to around $280 for two nights.I am happy now.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Glad you found something that works for your needs and budget and thanks for closing this thread with your decision.Have a great trip... you'll need a trip after all the work this stay took! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
