Priceline Hotel: Need Help with 3.5* Hotel in Cincinnati

I've tried several times over several weeks to try to reserve a 3.5 - 4 star hotel in Downtown Cincinnati and/or Covington, KY. However, I have not been successful. My bids have started at $65 and have gone up to $85. I'd really like to get it for $80 a night, but it's not working out. The dates are 4/30 - 5/2. I did see someone on here got a winning bid that was $62 for those dates back in December.

Last attempt was today.

There's a large event (marathon) on that weekend that I think is taking up all of the rooms.

Any thoughts or should I just pay retail? Should I just keep trying daily?

Are you in town for the Marathon? If not successful up to $85 what is your game plan? Rates are very high for these dates and there may be little reason for hotels to give deeply discounted inventory to the opaque suppliers if they feel they can sell most rooms on their own (and what inventory they may give may not be discounted too deeply)

What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels?

Yes, definitely will be coming in town for the marathon. I thought that I was trying to purchase early enough to get a good deal. I haven't tried price comparisons of normal booking routes, but I'll start that tonight/tomorrow.

Downtown and Covington are extremely expensive on HOTWIRE, with most of what's available showing as full price/regular rate listings. Are there any other outlying areas that would be acceptable?
