Hotwire Hotel: What's up with DC in July?

Howdy

I'm looking for a hotel in DC from July 7-16. Family of 4, looking to stay somewhat close to city center for touring. Prices are just insane for hotwire! Starts around $150 and goes up to $250 per night. I zeroed in on one that had pretty much what I wanted (besides price), looks like the Holiday Inn Capitol. Hotwire wants $177 per night. The hotel itself wants $198. A $21 discount isn't exactly what hotwire is known for. Am I nuts? Should I wait a couple weeks and see if things change, or is this just the way it is here?

Thanks for putting up with my rant. I've used hotwire and priceline several times (with the assistance of this forum) and never had trouble finding a decent deal. Guess there's a first time for everything.
