abcd1234 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Hello,I would like to stay in at least a 2* for as little as possible (I can spend a maximum of $100/night), and am willing to stay in any zone except Long Island City and Coney Island. Also, I am willing to split my stay up in several hotels to get a better deal. Ideally, I would like to stay the Chelsea or Downtown/SOHO/financial district zones. If need be, I am willing to also try something near a PATH train in New Jersey. What should my bidding strategy be?Thank you
thereuare Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Please add the zone and/or address information to your Priceline NYC thread... then reply to this thread indicating if your willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel and/or a hotel directly in Manhattan OR if you're goal is the least expensive 2* hotel or better for these dates. Please click this PRICELINE link before replying.Thanks. abcd1234 Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 My goal is to have the least expensive 2* or better hotel.
abcd1234 Posted February 4, 2011 Author Report Posted February 4, 2011 I concluded my previous post regarding the Fairfield Inn Fifth Avenue, any advice you can offer is much appreciated
thereuare Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 So to confirm, the least expensive 2* in the area and not willing to pay more to stay in Manhattan vs. the outter boroughs, correct?... am willing to stay in any zone except Long Island City and Coney Island. For clarity, and in case new zones are added in the days/weeks ahead while you're bidding, please list the zones you are willing to accept rather than those you aren't.I'll also add that i don't typically recommend the lower rated hotels in this area... while there may be some which meet your needs, there may be others which do not, and with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you don't get to choose which type you will get. However, it's your stay and you know your needs and tolerance better than we do.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. abcd1234 Posted February 5, 2011 Author Report Posted February 5, 2011 Thanks for your help, I'm going to try rebidding. I just noticed that I forgot to include MSG in my post about zones I'm willing to stay in, can you tell me how to include MSG into the bidding strategy? Sorry about the mistakeSo far I am rejected, I skipped ahead and tried rebidding $63 with no luck.Thank you
Romelle Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 abcd1234,Until thereuare has time to redo all that he sent you, a simple way to add MSG to the strategy is just to include it every time you include Brooklyn. Romelle
thereuare Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 You can just add MSG to every bid above... since all the bids above are unique, doing so won't trigger a duplicate bid. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. abcd1234 Posted February 8, 2011 Author Report Posted February 8, 2011 After following your bidding strategy up to the $78 point, I took a look at the calender of wins for the same dates last year, and noticed some wins in the $90 range in Manhattan - booked within a month of the check-in date. I have decided to stop the bidding for now, as I believe I can get a better deal if I start bidding again in mid March. The most attractive deals I have seen posted on this forum for mid April 2011 are the Sheraton Brooklyn for $99, and the Sheraton Tribeca for $130 . If I had to choose something right now I would go for the $99 Sheraton Brooklyn, but I have a feeling in mid March I can do better than this.In the meantime, I booked a crappy motel in Jersey City (Red Carpet Inn) that I can cancel.Any advice/suggestions?
thereuare Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Rates may come down... or they may go up; but i don't think you can necessarily apply rates from last year to this year since the economy was on shaky footing last year at this time and the NYC hotel market has rebounded somewhat strongly since then.I would find a cancelable back-up that you could actually live with if you had too... not sure if the Red Carpet Inn fits this criteria, and note that commuting to Manhattan from this location will not be that convenient. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. abcd1234 Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 I ended up winning the Sheraton Brooklyn for $95 dollars a night. Very happy with this hotel.
