honey on boost Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 I'm new to this and I read the tips for bidding but I'm a little nervous since this is my first time bidding and to NY and I don't want to get stuck in a bad hotel.Looking for something 4* I'll be going to Times Square, Central Park, Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, the Museum of Natural History and if I have time Grand Central Station.I've done a little research and MTE looks like the best area. If it isn't any input would be greatly appreciated!
thereuare Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Most midtown zones should work out fine for your needs, but most of your options will be determined by your budget... what is your expected maximum bid per nite for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. honey on boost Posted January 28, 2011 Author Report Posted January 28, 2011 I was hoping for max $130-150.
thereuare Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 You may be able to get something near the upper end of your budget in the MTE zone, but if budget is a factor, i'd also suggest considering the MTW, CPS, TS and ESB zones (as something may be available in one of these nearby zones for a little less). At the 4* level most work out well for the average user and the 'known' hotels in these zones are generally close to mass transit.Let us know if you want to include all of these zones in your bidding, just the MTE zone, or try MTE first up to your limit, then if rejected start over and include the other zones. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. honey on boost Posted January 28, 2011 Author Report Posted January 28, 2011 Thank you! I would like to try MTE first and if that fails I'm willing to try other zones.
AaronJB Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 HOTWIRE has a 4* in MTE for $181; I'm guessing a 4* may be able to be had on PRICELINE for $135-150, although it may take as much as $155-165. HOTWIRE also has a 4* ESB for $161 and a pair of 4*'s in MTC and Times Square for $178 (the prices you see may vary.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask.If the above is rejected we'll discuss other possible zone(s) you're willing to accept. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. honey on boost Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 Ok, that didn't work :)So now I'm open to other options as far as locations.
honey on boost Posted February 16, 2011 Author Report Posted February 16, 2011 UpdateI got the Sheraton New York Hotel And Towers for $163/nightMidtown West811 Seventh Avenue New York, New York 10019I'm a little worried because the reviews I've seen online aren't great for this location. Has anyone every stayed there that can provide input? Thanks
AaronJB Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Reviews for this property have improved a bit since a couple of years ago; while serious concerns the reviews certainly should be considered, the issue with some tripadvisor reviews and major cities is that regular rates (in NYC $250+ during many parts of the year) may create understandably high expectations. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
