Kibster Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 I just found this site and it has some great information on it. I have always used Priceline, but never have been too specific about what i want and only did it a couple weeks before the trip.I am planning a trip to Chicago and wnat to check in on 06/05 and check out on 06/09. Is it too soon to start trying to use Priceline to book a room? Can you still get a good deal if you book a room for four nights or are the deals better for smaller amounts of nights? Also, I am wanting to stay somewhere near Grant Park because we will be seeing a concert there on the 8th and I am wanting a pretty good hotel since it will be my wife's first time in the city and I want to get a room that she will like.
thereuare Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages. As far as when to bid see the 'bid early or close to check-in' thread in our PRICELINE FAQ.What is your desired star rating and expected budget for this stay? A quick look rates are somewhat high for these dates... how big of a draw is the concert you're going to?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 The Blues Fest - which is generally an insane period in terms of hotel availability - occurs a couple of days later (I thought that may be what this was, since it usually happens around this time.) Gospel Fest is in Grant Park 4th/5th. Rates are somewhat on the high side for these dates, which may be a combination of the concerts and expected travel for the early Summer period.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Kibster Posted January 28, 2011 Author Report Posted January 28, 2011 The concert that I am going to will be at the Jay Pritzker pavillion which only holds 11k. Would love ot be within walking distance from there. As far as start rating, I was thinking 4 or 3.5. Something kinda nice. I do not wantto spend more than 175 a night, but would love to get something much cheaper than that.
thereuare Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Dates are much higher for the first two nites of your stay vs. the last two nites... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? (if not, it's something you may want to consider down the road)I did find the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, which while a HUGE event most walkers sleep in tents, although some may opt for local hotel rooms, may also be taking up a significant piece of hotel inventory. If you want to try bidding now, did you want to only bid the Loop zone, the NMA zone, or both? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Kibster Posted January 28, 2011 Author Report Posted January 28, 2011 Splitting is an option and wouldn't mind if I had to switch hotels.I am fine with both the loop and NMA zones since both are centrally located and for the most part good areas.
thereuare Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?If you're willing to pay more for a 4* vs. 3.5*, if you're rejected for the complete stay, did you then want to try for a 3.5* for the complete stay OR try splitting the bid for a 4*?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Kibster Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 My goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better in the area that I am looking for. If I get a 4*, great, but I am not going to be upset if I get a 3.5*IDEALLY I would like to get all four nights in the same hotel, but I would be fine splitting the bids in hopes of getting the best deal.
