AlwaysBooking Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Hi I'm planning a trip on relatively short notice to London arriving on January 31 and departing on February 4. Area is a bit more important than star rating, but in the best of all possible worlds, I'd like to give a try for either a 5* or 4* in Zone 1 (Bloomsbury/Marble Arch) or Zone 7 (Mayfair/Soho) and possibly Zone 2 (Chelsea/Knightsbridge) or Zone 12 (Westminster). Again dreaming for the best of all possible worlds, I'd like to spend a max of around $150 per night plus fees. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks very much - love this site!
thereuare Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Did you want to bid only for the Bloomsbury/Marble Arch and Mayfair/Soho zones first before adding Chelsea/Knightsbridge and/or Westminster?Did you want to try for a 5* up to your limit first and then if rejected try for a 4* OR try for the least expensive 4* or better in any of the acceptable zones?Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AlwaysBooking Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Posted January 26, 2011 Yes, would prefer to try for Mayfair/Soho and Marble Arch first and give a shot at 5* and if rejected give a go at 4* - and if that fails then try Westminster and Chelsea zones. Thanks.
thereuare Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 At the 5* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: there are no 5* hotels in Bloomsbury-Marble Arch so we're not including that zone in your bidding below)Select 5* Mayfair-Soho...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150If the above is rejected (very likely) close your browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE.At the 4* level there are TWO re-bid zones.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair-Soho...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and re-bid zone2...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair-Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and Mayfair Soho...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and Mayfair Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115Any questions feel free to ask. AlwaysBooking Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Posted January 26, 2011 I'm in the process of working through this now - no luck with the 5* as you suspected. Working on 4* now and I got a Priceline "We're Still Working on Your Reqeust" message - is that a regular thing?
AlwaysBooking Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Posted January 26, 2011 Well, I tried the complete strategy to a T, but no luck. How might I revise it to give it another go? Should I add Chelsea/Knightsbridge and Westminster and up the ante? Thanks again - really appreciate your assistance.
thereuare Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 24 hours after your last rejected bid (ie- not when you started bidding, but your last rejected bid) i'd continue on for just the two zones you want...At the 5* level you can repeat the same strategy above if you want to give that another try.At the 4* level you can re-try as follows:Select 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair-Soho...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair-Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and Mayfair Soho...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and Mayfair Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. If the above is rejected did you then want to try for a 5* including the Chelsea-Knightsbridge and/or Westminster zones... then if that is rejected try for a 4* in all four zones? AlwaysBooking Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 It was a good effort, but proved problematical. I found, as a backup, a special deal at a 4* near Marble Arch which fits perfectly into my location needs. Next time, hopefully I'll get advance notice to really go after it early enough on PL to grab it. Thanks again for your help!
AaronJB Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Thank you for closing the thread - hope you enjoy your stay. :)
