luxury on a dime Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 Need help/recommendations for best value. -- Would like to stay close to the Richmond downtown shopping area-- Hope to avoid the hotels immediately next to the airport (for better sleep at night). So far I am interested in 3.5 stars hotels, hilton and marriot are both good options, but Delta is also in this class that I would like to avoid, willing to go up to 4 stars or down to 3 stars if the it's under $85 per night / comfortable/ close to the shopping malls. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 With PRICELINE there is no way to target, or avoid, a given hotel in the zone... you must be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level, or higher, that you choose. If there are hotels you're looking to target/avoid HOTWIRE can be a better option as you can often avoid properties you might not like (ie- if the hotel you're trying to avoid doesn't have a pool, you can safely purchase any hotel which shows a Pool icon and know that you won't receive the hotel you're trying to avoid)HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than HOTWIRE, but that's the trade-off of increasing the likelihood of getting what you want vs. rolling the dice and receiving any hotel in the zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. velvetduke Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 I have been Richmond twice within the last three months. Both bids I made on PRICELINE put me at the Hilton and Marriott.$90 got me Marriott in Richmond and $69 got me Hilton there. It's convenient being within walking distance of the trains. The malls were within walking range also.
claudinekayak Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I stayed twice in 3.5* hotels in Richmond: one time i got the Hilton for $70 and one time the Delta for $64. So I would say that your chance is 50/50.The Delta has a very good shuttle service that will bring you anywhere in Richmond for free. Good luck!
luxury on a dime Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 Thank you for responding, after researching on 3.5 star hotels, I found that Marriott, Hilton, and delta all required fees for on-site parking and wifi access. This adds another $15-20 per day. In this case, I would rather go for the 3 star hotels which offer both for free, or try to get the river rock resort (4 star, parking and wifi free). Thanks again.
claudinekayak Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 At the Hilton you can park in the street for free after a certain hour in the evening and before 8am in the morning. There is free Wifi in the hall dowstairs at the Hilton.the 3* Holiday Inn is extremely noisy. I got this one once for $51 but would never stay there again.Good luck!Claudine
luxury on a dime Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Thanks to everyone's input. I have booked the Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport hotel for those two nights of stay. Wifi access should be free, however there's an extra $8 per night for parking. The hotel is not too far away from the Golden Village commercial sector in Richmond. 3* Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport hotel$52 per night 2/25/2011 - 2/27/2011As usual, used the PRICELINE link. Thanks.
