KJack6 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Hi,There will be 4 women travelling to Rome from 6/4th-8th.We are looking to be fairly centrally located. I am looking for ideas of prices, and also if we will fit in one room. I have heard that the rooms are very small. Thanks for the help,KJ :)
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy; while you may be able to negotiate with the hotel, in cities where the rooms are smaller, this definitely becomes a big risk. I would instead recommend HOTWIRE, where one can indicate up to four people. What would be your desired budget/star rating per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

yellowdog Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 KJack6Your budget isn't realistic for a room that sleeps 4 adults in Central Rome. How high can you go? And like AaronJB said, you can't use PRICELINE here. Please take a look at HOTWIRE and post back with your thoughts when it comes to budget and zones to stay in.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
Romelle Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I got curious to see if there would be a resolution for a 4 person $100 budget in summer in Rome. www.venere.com does actually have a room that fits - the "Bed and Breakfast Roman". You can see pictures on the web site. Bathroom is shared. There also sometimes are some serious budget possibilities on www.hostelbookers.com. They can be a little quirky, but do workHotwire did have a 3* 4 person room for $138 for your dates - and it included breakfast. Romelle

KJack6 Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks everyone for the comments. You are right on the budget. I was thinking $100 per couple.Would it make more sense to get 2 rooms? Are there rooms with 2 real beds, or are they all super small? Can you please tell me if East Rome and North Rome are okay areas? We are thinking we will try and bid the next day or two.I have seen on Hotwire, thanks to the advice. I have noticed that $200 might be within reason for a 4*.Thoughts??KJ
thereuare Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Would it make more sense to get 2 rooms? Are there rooms with 2 real beds, or are they all super small? It really depends upon the make-up of the group and how close of friends you all are... but i would recommend 2 rooms if it can be done within your budget. It's one extra bathroom which will make getting ready in the morning and/or out for the evening much quicker than having 4 people all use one bathroom/shower.I don't have any firsthand knowledge of Rome, but generally in Europe i would reach for the highest rating hotel you can afford as the star ratings in Europe are usually a half a star to a full star 'overrated' compared to their US counterparts.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 If you post back the actual HOTWIRE price you saw for your dates and the amenities offered, it often is possible for the experts here to make a well-educated guess as to which hotel it might be. Not 100% sure, but close. Also note how many people you were using, as that can make a difference.RomellePS - If you have access to an Entertainment Book, there is a coupon in there worth $20 off a PRICELINE bid. You have to use it on a 3* or better, and 3 or more nights. Detailed instructions on the coupon. You can still go through the links from this site to PRICELINE.
KJack6 Posted February 8, 2011 Author Report Posted February 8, 2011 I am unfamiliar with Rome, and have heard that it is not the safest. What areas are the safest?Central Vatican North THis is what we were originally thinking. Any thoughts??As you can see from my threads, we are staying for 20+ days, and all over. Looking to do it as financially responsible as we can :)We are willing to pay if it is safe, decent and includes breakfast. Thanks again for all the input.KJ
Romelle Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 There are lots of these on the web and in guide books, but one of my favorites the Rick Steves write-ups on safety:http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/tips_menu.htmI've wandered lots of European areas, usually by myself, over many years. Never had a bad experience, although I know people that have been pick-pocketed, had purses stolen, etc. Do read through the Rick Steves safety write-ups and observe the precautions. Treat European cities as you would big US cities like New York. Romelle
