Hi, first time poster here - I have read all about using price line and found the resource of the list of Hotel star ratings in locations which will be a big help when trying to pick the right area, so thanks already for that! :)

Now looking for a little advice... I am away in July for my 10th Wedding Aniversary and we are spending one night in LA and then a further 10 days in Vegas and wanted to try use priceline to help keep the costs down.

I figured I would experiment with the LA one first seeing as it's only one night and then move on to Vegas, book with priceline, then try an upgrade withe the $20 trick.

I have placed a couple of bids on 4* Hotels in LA Hollywood (only three 4* hotels listed for that location so had a good idea of what would be on offer and that they should all fit the bill so not too worried which one I will get... I tried

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Happy (early) Anniversary!

There is no way to know if prices will drop closer to the date/s of travel; one can look at the spread between regular rates and discount rates for your dates and bet on whether the difference will widen or not, but there's no way to know for sure - if traffic keeps up or exceeds, rates could push higher. Additionally, in terms of lower/discounted rates, there is also a realistic "floor" for rates, as well.

What are the exact date/s of travel?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Hi :)

The exact dates are the night of 18th July in LA (Hollywood) and then the nights of 19th to 28th (Checkout 28th) in Vegas - south end of strip.

I figure Vegas should have plenty of spare rooms given that it's not a peak time for them due to the heat...

Would you suggest a good time to bid, or you think just go for it now?

(Thanks for info so far!)

Rates don't seem too bad for these dates on HOTWIRE, with a 5* North at $117 and a 5* South at $118; given that 5* regular rates in the North and South Strip are anywhere between around $160 (for the Vdara) to $233 (for the Venetian/Palazzo)

The main 5* condo property (which is in a separate North Strip Condo zone on Priceline) (the Trump) is $96 regular rate.

Given regular rates in comparison and likely profit margin consideration, I think there's not likely too much downside to the HOTWIRE 5* listing prices.

If you were not particular about which 5* and were looking to bid for 5* in either the North Strip or South Strip zones, I think a likely neighborhood of acceptance is between $85-95. However, you could try $75 and $80 before trying $85 - while the odds aren't high, you have enough time to give those two levels a try.

The Trump could likely be had for even lower on PRICELINE.

Please let us know if you have any questions before bidding.

Thanks for the tips!

I will have a chat with the Mrs - we may even stay off strip in a dive (with the exception of our anniversary night in the Bellagio :) ) to save more money for the fun stuff. Either way, whatever we decide to do, I will ensure I use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links from the forum and will let you know how I get on!

Cheers!
