gtts Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Hi there,I'm fairly new to all of this so any help is appreciated :) We'll be staying from 5/19 to 5/24. Since it will be on the weekend I am expecting the prices to be a bit higher. Although I'm not sure how high I should bid. I see that some people are getting Wynn for $101/night. Which is amazing! I guess my question is how much shoudl I expect to pay for Wynn or Venetian or Palazzo during my stay. At what amount should I start my bid? Is the time I'm going considered high season? I see that Vdara is on for $123/night on Priceline but I'm not sure b/c I keep hearing mixed reviews so I woudl prefer to get Wynn, Venetian or Palazzo. Also I was planning on renting a car. Do you think it's better to combine the purchase together or to get them seperately? Thanks so much!gtts
thereuare Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you're willing to buy your hotel 'opaque' (ie- not know the name before your purchase) you'll usually get a better deal than by buying an air + hotel package deal together.I'm guessing a 5* hotel in the North Strip zone (don't forget to add the Encore as a possibility to the list of hotels you mention above) will likely run you about $160-$200/nite. Not sure what you're looking for from this stay, but that rate at the Vdara looks to be very good for these dates, imo. Most of the negative reviews of the Vdara seem to be about the service... how much of the hotel services do you intend to use this trip and how much are you just looking for a nice room/hotel?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. gtts Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 Thank you for your prompt response :) I don't mind not knowing the hotel name. I checked them seperately yesterday and looks like renting a car for the time I'm there will cost $200 (taxes included) so I will do the calculation later...Yes Encore is a possibility too :) Thanks for letting me know the range. Originally we were planning on staying at the MGM but then when we looked at the hotel room online it looked to be really small. I want our stay to be comfortable, nice room, pool and perhaps a fitness centre. I don't believe we will be spending a lot of time in our room so as long as it is nice I'm good. However I realize there is no casino at Vdara so I guess there will be no late night gambling for me lol Do you think if I bid 2 weeks before my travel date it will get cheaper? I saw that the person got Wynn for $101/night 2 weeks before his arrival date and it included days from Sunday to Tuesday. My budget right now is lower than $160/night (max $130) so I guess I won't be able to afford a 5* North Strip...gtts
thereuare Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Do you think if I bid 2 weeks before my travel date it will get cheaper?Nobody can say... especially in Vegas where rates change more often then just about any other that i can think of. It all depends upon occupancy levels at the hotel and how actual reservations/cancellations come in relative to expectations. For more info see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.I saw that the person got Wynn for $101/night 2 weeks before his arrival date and it included days from Sunday to Tuesday.Keep in mind that rates in Vegas on the weekends can be 2x-3x higher than midweek... your dates include the weekend and the $101 win you reference were only for midweek nites.I stayed at the MGM Grand a few years back and the room was actually quite nice... not overly large, and perhaps a bit dark, but it exceeded my expectations. With all the 5* offerings in Vegas it wouldn't be my first choice of hotel, but at the 4* level i would have no problem staying there again... especially for the right price. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases (or our MGM Grand link should you decide to book direct) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
gtts Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 So I've been bidding but it looks like the price will be way above my maximum bid :) I see people staying on the weekends and they get Wynn - March 10-14 for $120 and April 21 to 26 for $110. So I guess I'm wondering why the weeekend I'm going is so high? I know the weekend after is the labor day weekend so that would be more expensive but is there any reason why my weekend (5/19 to 5/23) is so high too. I would really love Wynn and would pay a maximum bid of $150 (hotwire shows 5* for 184) but if it's not possible then I would start looking at the south end. Hotwire shows 5* south for $134, what do you think my max bid should be for 5* south? Thanks so much, gtts
gtts Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 Oh wow! I just checked right now and the 5* north in Hotwire is $167 with following amenities Resort, suite, casino, fitness centre, pool, restaurant, business access, high speed internet, golf nearby, tennis nearby and spa services. I guess this could be Wynn, Venetian or Palazzo can't really tell. But then why can't I get it on priceline for lower lol :)
AaronJB Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Dates can vary significantly from day-to-day, month-to-month and year/over/year. Additionally, rates do start heading higher the further into Spring. Are you only interested in Wynn or would you be willing to accept the other 5* possibilities in the zone?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 How high have you already bid for a 5* North Strip property? Is you check-out dates 5/23 or 5/24?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. gtts Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 Yes I would definitely accept other 5* possibilities in the zone. I have already put in a bid up to $155 and still got rejected so I quit there because I didn't want to go any higher. But now the prices seem to decrease at Hotwire $167 for 5* north so should I be expecting Priceline prices to decrease as well or is this unrealistic? lolOriginally we were planning to stay until the 24th but then we decided we only need to stay until the 23rd since we'll have enough time to see and do everything we wanted to, so we're coming back on the 23rd.
thereuare Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 There is not a direct correlation between PRICELINE and HOTWIRE prices... it depends by how much prices decreased by. HOTWIRE uses a variable mark-up in their pricing so a small change in price may not indicate any true change in demand and be just part of the normal price fluctuations seen by HOTWIREHowever, i would try again as soon as you're able... if you're rejected at $155 would you pay $167 for the HOTWIRE offer or look towards the Strip South zone? If you need a bidding strategy to follow please confirm your maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. gtts Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks so much thereuare :) I will try again for 5*north but in the meantime I will try for 5* south but my max bid would be $120.
AaronJB Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Good luck on your next round of bidding for 5* North. In terms of 5* South, given prices, I'd guess a possible win may be (would hopefully be) in the $110-120 neighborhood.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
gtts Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 So I got the Palazzo for $150 and this is what I didbid $135 counter offer $170bid $138 counter offer $173bid $140 counter offer $175bid $145 counter offer $180bid $150 acceptedI'm a little sad b/c I really wanted the Wynn but I'm sure Palazzo will be very nice too.
