Ida-E Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Hi everyone! It'd be great if you could help me out with this one:I need a hotel room for my stay in October (9th - 13th). It should at least be a 2.5* hotel in one of these areas: - Chelsea- Midtown East- Midtown West- Empire State Building- Times Square- Central Park South (no preferences here)I've checked most of the 2.5*/3* hotels with tripadvisor and they'd be alright. Any chance to get a room for less than $100? My maximum would be $120. What would be a good bidding strategy?Ida
AaronJB Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The build up from October to around halfway through December is usually one of the most expensive periods of the year, first with decent weather in October and then the holiday season in November and December. This is also a considerable distance in advance, and prices may vary - possibly significantly, up or down - between now and then (and unfortunately, there's no way to know how traffic will go.)While you could certainly try bidding at this point, but I'd expect the process to take a longer time period and, if previous Octobers are any indication, $120 may be tough in Midtown. I would highly recommend trying primarily for a 3*, as while there are some nice 2.5* properties - especially in MSG-Convention, the quality at that level starts to vary more considerably and there is certainly a chance you may get a place you may not be as pleased with.Is your max $120 + taxes/fees or $120 "all-in"?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Ida-E Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 Hello,MSG-Convention wouldn't be my favorite location but I'd definitely give it a try. My limit is $120 + tax. Hope it won't be too difficult. Fortunately, I do have plenty of time to bid.
thereuare Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 My limit is $120 + tax. Hope it won't be too difficult. It certainly won't be easy for this time of year.Did you want to take the advice above and stick with 3* bidding OR is your goal the least expensive 2.5* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Ida-E Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 I'd like to try a 2.5* (max $120+tax) in these areas:- Chelsea- Empire State Building- MSG-Convention- Midtown East- Midtown WestI've changed the areas a little because I don't want to end up in Wellington Hotel or in one of the less popular Times Square hotels. I'd be absolutely fine with the rest of the 2.5* hotels on the forum's list. I expect the unexpected though. It's just for a couple of nights anyway.
