PL Name Your Own Price question

I just bid $95 a night for a 4-star hotel room in Snowmass, CO. and it was accepted. So I hit the back button and entered $40 and it was accepted. It said that the average 4-star in this area was around $450. Would I be correct in assuming I would end up with one of the 4-star hotels with a published rate listed on PL? I assume each individual hotel sets it's own minimum, so could the $75 bid yield a higher quality room than the $40 even though they or both rated 4-star. Basically my question is, can a deal that seems to be too good back fire on you and is there ever any advantage in bidding higher than the rock bottom that PL will accept? Thanks.
