LB914 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Booked Montreal Hyatt for 4/21-4/24 for $90/night (with taxes grant total was $328).Bidding history:Selected only 4* and aboveSelected just Old Town zone - $69 (rejected)Added Downtown zone - increased to $75 (rejected)Added Longueuil (free bid, no 4*s there) - $80 (rejected)Added Laval (free bid, no 4* there) - $85 (rejected)Added Pointe Claire (free bid, no 4* there) - $90 (ACCEPTED)By adding the zones without 4* hotels I was able to bid for everything within a half hour rather than waiting 24 hs. I regreat not bidding $86 instead of $90 based on the other recent wins but I wasn't thinking and ran out of freebie zones - at least it is only $14 total.
thereuare Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratulations on your success! You won't always be able to squeeze every last dollar out of a hotel stay, so better to focus on the dollars saved rather than the few cents you may leave on the table... i wouldn't worry too much about overbidding by $3-$4... just make sure you never overbid by $30-$40 :)Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. sjg22 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 As a frame of reference, I've stayed at this hotel twice in the past via Priceline. Most recently, I stayed for two days (Thursday and Friday nights) in early September of 2010, paying $98 a night using the same free rebid technique as you did.In July of 2009, I stayed three nights at this hotel, Saturday to Tuesday for $67 a night (again using the same technique). It seems like prices on Priceline have been going up a bit recently...Also, for those that have not stayed at the Hyatt Montreal before, I liked the central location. You're right on Rue St. Catherines, and a relatively short walk from the Via Rail Station, the Metro, Old Town, the Port and, when the festival is on, Just For Laughs. It is a bit of an oddly designed hotel - it takes a slightly inconvenient series of elevators to get to your room, and the hotel is located inside a shopping centre. It was clean, had average room quality for a Hyatt and I had no problem getting two queens rather than the standard King when I went in '09.
