dlarryhancock Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Hi there.I have used BetterBidding.com in the past to book the exact hotel that I wanted in Montreal. It saved me many many $ over the rate I was being quoted by convention organizers for the same hotel.I hope to repeat that experience with an upcoming convention in Reno (August 2011).One of the things that DOES make me uncomfortable with BetterBidding.com is that when I look at the hotel lists for a city, the dates on the posting are often quite old - for Nevada the date is in 2003, with an update, also in 2003. So I am never sure how accurate those lists might be.I searched the forums for successes that people have had in a city and am encouraged by those postings. However in this particular instance I am a bit leery. I see that people have had success booking the Atlantis, however all those successes were from people using Priceline - I did not see anyone saying they had booked the Atlantis through Hotwire.First question then.... is the Atlantis a Hotwire hotel, or only a Priceline hotel?(I have never used Priceline, but have used Hotwire successfully and so would prefer to stick with Hotwire if possible).Looking at the Hotwire listings for my dates (August 16 to 21, 2011) I see a great rate at a FOUR star hotel in the Reno South area.CasinoShuttleFitnessPoolRestaurantsBusiness CentereInternetGolfWould this be the Atlantis?I also see a FOUR AND A HALF starCasinoShuttleRestaurantsBusiness CentereInternetGolfTennisSpaWould this be the Grand Summit or Peppermill perhaps?Any help is appreciated.Thank you, dlarryhancock

So I am never sure how accurate those lists might be.The dates you're referring to are from when the list was created... they are constantly updated with new hotels and star ratings whenever new information is posted to the board. See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ for more info.I searched the forums for successes that people have had in a city and am encouraged by those postings. dlarryhancock Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Replied, and done.If you get benefit from people starting their searches here as well, then by all means, I will begin them from here.Larry
thereuare Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 For the 4* property, if you go back to HOTWIRE and click the CONTINUE button next to this offering and then click the "See all " link on top of the icons, do you see more amenities than what you've listed above? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dlarryhancock Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 When I originally posted I knew that I should look for additional amenities, and I clicked the Continue button to find them. However, I mised the SEE ALL button.Doing so, I see two additional amenities listed. So the complete list is.....CasinoShuttleFitnessPoolRestaurantsBusiness CentereInternetGolfTennis nearbySpa ServicesLarry
thereuare Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 The 4* matches the Atlantis, Grand Sierra and Peppermill... so any of these would be likely for the 4*.The 4.5* is a match for the Peppermill Tuscany Tower so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. dlarryhancock Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks for the info. This might be difficult for me to book as the Grand Sierra would be too far away from the convention centre for my needs.I prefer the Atlantis, but could live with the Peppermill.I will have to give this a lot of thought before I take a risk of getting a hotel that does not meet my needsIf I do book, I will return to the forum and use the HOTWIRE links and then report my results.Larry
thereuare Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 The opaque providers are always a risk when you need a specific property... it's a question of how much a particular property is a need vs. a want. Please close this thread with whatever you end up doing for this stay (even if it's not PRICELINE or HOTWIRE) and please also check our support page if you end up booking direct.Good luck. dlarryhancock Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Will do. Thank you.I do recognize that it can be difficult to get an exact property. In this instance, my convention is providing "convention rates" at the Atlantis and Peppermill. Those rates appear to be no different than the rates that I am being quoted by various hotel booking sites on the net, other than perhaps a small saving on the resort fee.I have already booked my room at the Atlantis through the convention, to ensure that I have a room, since room blocks do sometimes fill up.I will monitor the offerings on HOTWIRE for the next while to see what I can infer, before I make a final decision as to whether to gamble on a HOTWIRE booking. As my convention is in August, it may be a few months before I make a final decision.I will close the thread when I do.Larry

dlarryhancock Posted July 21, 2011 Author Report Posted July 21, 2011 Because I want the Atlantis specifically, I have chosen to just keep my reservation with the Atlantis at my convention rates, rather than take a risk and end up booking a different hotel.I will use Better Bidding when checking out my next vacation!
