au6768 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Hello,I am going to NYC for the first time in my life and I am looking to save a little money by staying in NJ. Specifically, I am thinking the Jersey City/Hoboken area because of the ease with the PATH train. Anyway, I am looking for a bidding strategy to get one of the 4* hotels in this area. I am really just wondering what I could expect to pay during this time of the year. I am hoping to keep it under $120/night.If anyone has other recommendations on where to stay I would be more than happy to consider them, thanks.
thereuare Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! For Hoboken-Jersey City you're probably looking in the $100-$135 area for these dates... if you're ready to start bidding now let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. au6768 Posted January 15, 2011 Author Report Posted January 15, 2011 Thanks for the response. I am ready to start bidding. Just trying to get everything planned well in advance. Also, I see you are from the area I am considering. While looking around last night I was also thinking the Secaucus - North Bergen area wouldn't be too bad. I am assuming it would be a decent amount cheaper as well. In this area it looks like the 3.5 - 3* hotels aren't that bad. Would this area be a decent place to stay? My biggest concern is transportation into NYC and the transit schedule doesn't look too bad for Secaucus - North Bergen? I would think for this area I would be willing to go up $100 and $130 for the Hoboken-Jersey City area.Any recommendations and bidding strategy would be appreciated, thanks.Best Regards
thereuare Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Secaucus-North Bergen isn't bad... but it's a distant second choice compared to the Hoboken and Jersey City Waterfront area. Staying in Secaucus-North Bergen you give up a bit of convenience that Hoboken-Jersey City provides and i'd only choose the Secaucus-North Bergen if it was significantly cheaper than Hoboken. As well, since this is your first trip to the area, i'd sooner recommend the Hoboken area for the convenience factor as i believe you'll have a much better overall experience, and it's worth the price difference for these dates, imo.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. au6768 Posted January 15, 2011 Author Report Posted January 15, 2011 Thanks for the advice. I will definitely proceed with bidding in the Hoboken/Jersey City area on the 4* hotels. If I can get a place under $140 I will be happy. If you could request a strategy I would appreciate it. Thank you

au6768 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Report Posted January 17, 2011 Well, slight change in plans. I was originally going to go to NY/NJ before I head to Washington DC. However, the prices in DC were much cheaper from 4/30 - 5/3 then they were from 5/3 to 5/6. So i have flip flopped my travel plans and will now be in NY/NJ from 5/3 to 5/6. I am still looking at the Hoboken/Jersey City area and wondering how the change in dates will effect my bidding strategy for a 4* in Jersey City. What price range should I be expecting now? I am assuming it will be slightly higher now. Thanks again for all of the help.
thereuare Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 For your new dates, at the moment Hoboken-Jersey City looks like it'll run you about $150-$180... a 4* in Manhattan might be had for the $175 or so area if that is of any interest.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. au6768 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Report Posted January 17, 2011 Thanks for the response. Hoboken - Jersey City for $150-180 isn't too bad. The 4* in Manhattan in the $175 area definitely peaks my interest. What do you have in mind? Looking at the map, I would be interested in zones:Central Park SouthChelsea AreaEmpire State Building Area Hell's Kitchen Madison Square Garden Midtown East Midtown WestTimes Square - Theatre DistrictWhat range would I be looking at for 3.5* in the above zones. Thanks again for all of the help
thereuare Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 A 3.5* won't be much cheaper... i'm guessing perhaps the $165 area?Let us know what you'd like to try for first, and your maximum bid, and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
