I have been trying to secure a room for the above dates to no avail.

January 9th I started out at $ 76 and have increased the bid in small increments to $90 and have had no luck nor any counter offers

I have checked and there do not seem to be any major events happening that weekend

I have checked the hotel rates for a week prior, my week and a week after using booking.com, Hotels.com and Expedia

one week before avg price $203

my week $211

week after $239.

Today I started over at $75 just for the heck of it.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your time

Welcome to BetterBidding!

With hotel direct rates at $200+, your bids are still less than half of prevailing rates, and while such deep discounts are not uncommon for this area, it may be too early for hotels to be willing to discount so deeply; preferring to hold onto rooms themselves in hopes of selling them at full price rather than at a fraction of current rates. I'd book a back-up reservation and continue to bid at your current levels about once a week or so, more frequently as you get closer to your travel dates.

praguepivo,

The lack of 'opaque' availability thru HOTWIRE is indicative that hotels have not given any deeply discounted supply to HOTWIRE (and therefore may not have give deeply discounted inventory to PRICELINE either). They may not have given inventory because they've already receiving more reservations then expected at this point prefer to hold onto rooms in an attempt to sell them themselves at full price rather then at discounted prices... or it could just be too early to see very low rates or an event/conference in town which would cause unusually high demand.

As noted above your bids are still well under half of conventional bookings, so not sure if you want to increase your maximum bid or wait it out and hope for lower rates in the coming weeks/months.

Thank you for your reply. I have spent the day checking many hotel prices and it seems, for some reason, my week is more expensive than the week before and in many cases the week after as well. I have checked several "what's on" type sites for this period and can't seem to find any big event. I will continue plodding along and will use the PRICELINE links on the board to bid.
