hugol Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Hello,I`m new in this forum and never used Priceline before.I`ll go to NYC in march and stay 4 days there to see the usual places for tourists + shopping at the Jersey Gardens.I don`t know which areas are recommended for me, my budget is 100 bucks.Do you thinkWhen is the best time (in the weeks before travel) to bid?thanks!
thereuare Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Sub-$100 in NYC can often be a tough feat, but we can give it a try, although i'll mention that bumping your budget another $20-$30 per nite might actually get you a 4* hotel (the difference in price between some star levels often isn't that great in NYC).We often recommend sticking the the higher star levels in NYC... while there may be some lower rated hotels which meet your needs, there might be others which do not, and with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you can't choose which type you will get. Are you interested in the highest rated hotel you can get at $100 or less OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better (or 2.5* or better... although i don't necessarily recommend this given my previous comments) for this stay? Let us know regarding star rating and we'll then discuss the best zone options. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hugol Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 I`m considering a budget of around 500 dollars for 4 days including the taxes. What I`m looking in the hotel is a good location, private bathroom, cleanness and breakfast wouldnt be bad. If I get a 4* well located for 120, I'd consider it. Another alternative, that I`m don't know its worh, is staying in Jersey City near a Path station. The problem I saw there is: I can`t choose the area in Jersey City (I `d choose an hotel near newport). Thanks for the fast response!
thereuare Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 At the moment I don't think Jersey City is going to help you for this stay.Let us know what you'd like to try first... a 4* up to $120 or for a lower rated hotel with a lower star rating. hugol Posted January 15, 2011 Author Report Posted January 15, 2011 Ok, I think 4* for about 120 is ok for me. I'm ready to bid. What would be good zones to start with?Once again, thanks for the support!
thereuare Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 At the 4* level MTE, MTW, ESB, CPS and TS all typically work well for the average user. $120 may be a bit hopeful, but not so much so that it isn't worth a try...At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, ESB, CPS and TS...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions (especially confirming your re-bid zones) feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. hugol Posted January 17, 2011 Author Report Posted January 17, 2011 For now I got rejected. I used the following rebiding zones: HK, DTS(5), MSG, UES, UEWI`ll keep retrying in the next days! I understoood that we have to be patient to get a good deal and March is not as good as January. And thanks for the support again!
thereuare Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I used the following rebiding zones: HK, DTS(5), MSG, UES, UEWThese are NOT your re-bid zones... you could easily end up in one of these areas if you continue to use these for your bidding. To determine your correct re-bid zones. Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter New York City and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest tar rating offered n the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hugol Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Ok,Now I think I got it right. I got rejected again. My rebiding zones:- UES- MSG- LIC- BR- CI
thereuare Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct... but always remember to double check them just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed.Did you try again up to $120?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hugol Posted April 20, 2011 Author Report Posted April 20, 2011 Hello,Sorry for forgetting to give a feedback.I tried to bid again on Priceline a few days later up to 120 and could not get any of the hotels. In the end I stayed at Country Inn by Carlson (in Queens) for about 80 dollars per night with taxes (got a discount from the regular price). Thanks for the support!
