posh Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I would like a 5* Hotel preferably Wynn, Palazzo, Venetian or Aria. I don't want the Vdara or Trump.I put in a bid for $75 for 3 nights at 5* North of Strip and it was rejected. I bid a second time at $80 and added in the Fremont Vicinity and it also got rejected.I saw that someone won Aria for $110. Would that be possible for June dates? If I go on Priceline it comes up with ARIA at $175 for those dates. What price should I expect to get on Name Your Own Price if I add "South of The Strip" also it says "vicinity" what hotels are in the vicinity of south? Would that include Vdara or Trump? Thanks :) My dates are 6/2-6/5. I would obviously like the best deal but my budget is $150 per night max.
Romelle Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Vdara has not been reported as a 5* Priceline win yet, although it has been reported as a 5* Hotwire win. That is why it is on the Hotwire lists but not on the Priceline lists. However, if you are bidding the Las Vegas (Strip South) area to try for Aria, there is always a possibility you might be the first betterbidding Priceline winner of Vdara. Regarding what hotel one might get, the Priceline map rules. If a hotel is within the boundaries of that map you could get it. You are safe from the Trump since it is in the separate "Condo" map area.As to what price you might expect to get, the Calendar of Wins (above) for your dates is probably the best predictor. Although deals do simply come and go. Rates are always very date specific. Romelle
thereuare Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I'll add that the Aria has only recently been reported to the board via PRICELINE... it may not be long before Vdara is too. I would think it would be a risk to bid the Strip South zone if you're not willing to accept the Vdara.Your option(s) are to stick with only the North Strip zone or use HOTWIRE where you may be able to choose a 5* hotel in the South Strip zone which you know is not the Vdara. However, rates are currently high for your dates and there are no 5* hotels appearing in either the North or South Strip zone within your budget... $150 or under may also be tough for a 5* in the North Strip zone via PRICELINE.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. posh Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks very much to both of you. I have had a further research and am open to Vdara or any 5* hotels on the strip. I had a couple of bids rejected.16/1: $100 & $110 Fremont St, Boulder, North and South Strip18/1: $120 & $125 All above places plus Henderson and Lakes. When I put in the $120 they said "if you up your bid to $150 we will give you another go without changing any other criteria". Do you think this would have got me one of the 5* hotels? I'm not in any rush as the trip isn't until June so I said no and put in a bid of $125 but maybe next time I'll just say yes to the $150!If I can't get any 5* for $150 eventually I think I will opt for 4*..
Romelle Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 You got a Priceline "counter offer". In answer to your first question, yes if you put in the $150 right away it is highly probable you would have gotten a 5* at that rate. HOWEVER, as you did, it usually is better to just keep gradually working your bids higher. People here have reported getting a bid after only a $1 increase. Usually it takes about 1/2 the difference. And of course once in a great while gradually working clear up to the full counter-offer amount isn't successful. You said it yourself - you aren't in any rush. Maybe you could bid about once a week, adopting sort of a "sweep" strategy. 1st the areas you like and maybe $100, then adding in each free rebid area with a small increment up to the $125. The following week, start a few dollars higher and end up a few dollars higher. This lets you catch a new addition to the inventory at a lower price, but just bidding weekly lessens the rejection frustration. At the moment, there is a 5* HOTWIRE South Strip offering for $128 for your dates (I assumed a 6/2 check-in and a 6/6 check-out for 4 nights?). Possibility? If you are interested in that and would like an educated guess as to what you might be getting, you could post back with the amenities.Romelle

I enjoy the bidding so am happy to do it more than once a week but I will definitely try out your recommended pattern :)At the moment, there is a 5* HOTWIRE South Strip offering for $128 for your dates (I assumed a 6/2 check-in and a 6/6 check-out for 4 nights?). I think I will continue with Priceline for a while and see if there is a chance I can get a 5* on North Strip (I know its pretty unlikely but I have time!).Thanks so much. This forum is amazing!
AaronJB Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Spa ServicesGood evening. :)Are you also seeing a pool icon with this listing?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
