Priceline Hotel: 2* Lumberton

I could use a little help. I would like to bid on Fairfield Inn in Lumberton. On the betterbidding hotel list is says the Fairlfield Inn is 2*'s. When I clicked on the priceline list to see what hotels where considered a certain amount of stars it had said the Fairlfield Inns would be in the 2.5*'s. I'm not sure which I should choose to start my bid.

I'm also wondering where I should start. I did see that someone won a bid last year around this time for 30 bucks, so I was thinking of starting there.

Does that sound about right?

I'm just a member, but I'll take a run at this. I find the Fairfield listed as 2* in both betterbidding hotel lists (pinned at top of NC area) at the 2* level. I also find it as a 2* on the retail side of Priceline. I can't figure out where you found it at 2 1/2*??

Anyway, you need to know you can't Priceline bid for a specific hotel. Just a location and a star level. And you have to be willing to accept ANY hotel in that area (as mapped by Priceline) at that star level. Once in a while PL even throws in an upgrade, so you have to also be willing to accept a higher star level (not usually a problem).

You don't mention your dates? The Fairfield is $99 for a random January date (20), but there is also the 2* Ramada at $59, so $30 wouldn't be a bad place to start, assuming the same date. 50% off is always good. Once in a while somebody does even better, but it is unusual. If you've got time, you can certainly explore lower numbers first. Or higher star levels for that matter. The 3* Holiday Inn was $71 on the retail side.

Do post back if you'd like more specific help. And I'm sure somebody official will soon be around to properly welcome you here.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Not sure where the Fairfield was listed at 2.5*. Although the chain is commonly a 2.5*, some properties may vary and be listed at the 2* range (it's not uncommon to see multiple locations of a particular chain be at different star ratings.) When looking for this property on PRICELINE, it's still currently at the 2* level. As mentioned above, when using PRICELINE, you have to be willing to accept any hotel at a particular star rating in a particular zone. If you were to bid 2* for this particular zone, you may get something else besides the Fairfield.

Please provide your date/s of travel and we would be happy to offer additional suggestions. You may also want to see if HOTWIRE is offering anything of interest in the area for your dates.

Thank you both for your replies.

M dates are for 1/20/2011-1/21/2011

I'm not sure either where I saw the 2.5 stars. I'm actually planning a Disney vacation and am dealing with information overload.

I looked under the hotel list and saw that Fairfield Inn was the only hotel listed. Is this just a reference? I just assumed that it meant Fairfield was the only hotel that priceline was taking bids for, so it made sense to me that bidding on that town with the right *'s would automatically get me Fairfield Inn. That makes me nervous because a lot of hotels in that area seem kind of sketchy.

Are there any suggestions that would get me a clean hotel at a halfway point to Florida from Jersey?

The reason the Fairfield Inn is the only Lumberton 2* on the betterbidding list is because it is the only one some member here has been kind enough to report as a win. The fact that it has been reported makes it at least probable as a likely win, but definitely not automatic. This site regularly gets new hotels reported.

If you look on the Priceline retail side (non-bidding), the hotels you see there are a good indication of your possibilities from bidding. Not 100% sure though, as one can get hotels via bidding that are not on the retail side, and vice versa.

You could make yourself a list of the towns you'll pass through at the halfway point, and then bid several of them at the 3* level. The 3* level might remove some of the "sketchiness"?

Generally speaking, the Priceline hotels are pretty workable, even at the lower star levels. But a clunker does sneak in once in a while, at any level.

Have you found the Hotel Review tab on this site yet? Again, the coverage is dependent on the kindness of the members, but there might be something useful there.

Another option you have is to go through Hotwire. A link in the upper left hand corner here. You also can't see the hotel you will get ahead of time, but the list of amenities provided can usually be used to figure out which one it is. Not 100% sure, but very close.

It tend to cost a little bit more, but might be worth it for the assurance.

If you enter the city and your dates, you will see the various offerings. Click Continue on the ones that interest you, and further in to "see all" Amenities.

If you post back here with the full list of amenities, one of the experts will provide their best assumption as to which hotel you will get. No guarantee, but it definitely helps.

If you look on the Hotwire North Carolina list of hotels, the 2.5* Ramada has been reported as a win, with the only amenity of Hi-speed Internet.

Hotwire tends to rate hotels a little more generously, so a 2.5* there might be a 2* on Priceline.

I completely understand now. I'll have to work a little bit on this tonight and see what I get.

Planning this Disney vacation is pretty exhausting. Next stop will have to be an all inclusive resort. (One could dream)

HOTWIRE has a 2* in Lumberton for $41 w/pool and breakfast, as well as a 3.5/5 tripadvisor rating. Rates for comparables are a bit higher in Fayetteville nearby, but Raleigh looks to have some reasonable ($45-55) rates at the 2/2.5*/3* level.
