null Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 HiIts my first time using PRICELINE, and I'm bidding for a 5* in Central Amsterdam. I've seen various other people's success stories of like $85, $95 all the way up to $130 for a 5* in Amsterdam. I started at $80 and have worked up to $123 in $5 to $6 increments but not so much as had a counter offer. Is this normal? Am I bidding too early? Am I being unreasonable with my prices? Is there anything going on over there that could see hotels holding out their inventories?Any advice from the veterans much appreciated :)

Should I be looking at 2 different bookings maybe?
null Posted January 6, 2011 Author Report Posted January 6, 2011 I'm looking at 16/07 - 22/07, which spans a weekend. Should I be looking at 2 different bookings maybe?I removed the 16/07, expecting to get the Barbizon Palace and then book the extra night on a seperate website at $210 or so.However, for 17-22 I've landed the Grand Amrath at just $100 a night, I'm WELL happy with that!! The cheapest I've found the night of the 16th is $270. What would be the best way of getting the night of the 16th? contact the hotel direct? Can't see anywhere on priceline to 'extend stay' or anythingMODS: please feel free to change subject of this thread :)
thereuare Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you're happy with the results and this property will work well for your plans. On your winning bid confirmation page is there anything to the effect of "Happy with your hotel... Click Here to try to extend your stay" If so this would be the best way to try to add the additional nite, but based upon your previous rejections and the hotel direct price of the Barbizon, chances favor that your attempt to extend will either 1) be denied or, 2) be told a room is available but at a higher price (at which point you will be given the option to accept or reject the alternate price.Other than the above i'd try searching for the best rate you can find for this property or be willing to change hotels during your stay and consider bidding for the additional nite. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how the extra nite goes or if we can be of further help.
