maskedrose86 Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Hi Everyone,Just registered for this forum since I thought it would be a good resource in planning a trip to NYC with my husband. We are wanting to go to NYC for about 5 nights (give or take) starting either the 10th of April or the 11th. We had our honeymoon in NYC in December of 2009 and stayed at the Royalton, but did not use Priceline at that time. I would LOVE to stay at this hotel again (or the general area...being close to St. Patrick's Cathedral specifically and Broadway). Ideally I'd like to find a 4 star hotel for ~150/night or less (would love a 120/night deal). What do you think? I think the area I'd be concentrating on staying would be MTW then?Would gladly welcome thoughts on that time of year and/or strategies for doing the bidding?Thank you!!
thereuare Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! This property is located in the MTW zone, but it's on a 'strip' of the zone which is wedged between Times Square and MTE, so if you bid MTW there is a change that you could end up further from this hotel than if you had bid one of these other two zones (but still not that far away)Spring is usually an expensive time of year in NYC and i'm guessing that if your are successful for a 4* hotel it will likely be much closer to the $150 area than the $120 mark... although it might even take a little more than $150.I'd start by looking at the PRICELINE map of this area and determine which zone(s) you're willing to accept and your maximum bid, we'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. maskedrose86 Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 So what do you all think of this hotel? I'm a little nervous since recent reviews and photos I'm seeing aren't outstanding.....but who knows maybe it will be alright. My husband and I have stayed at the Royalton before on our honeymoon in December of 2009, so I admit that's what I was hoping for.Has anyone stayed at the Intercontinental before? I'm hoping this is still a hotel that we will enjoy staying at.
thereuare Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 This property should be fine...I'm not sure of the reviews you've read, but this is a 'standard' chain hotel and like most hotels in NYC you will see both good and bad reviews... overall the hotel gets a 4.0/5.0 on TA which is pretty good and you could certainly do much worse. The location is good, and you're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
