guru533 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Started bid $60 - rejectedStarted bid $70 - rejectedStarted bid $80 - rejectedStarted bid $90 - rejectedNoticed that a lot of users got rooms here for ~$80 last year around these dates.Am I bidding too early? Should I just wait and start again in a month and a month after that until I get ~$80? Or is this strategy a waste of time as it will not make a difference?
thereuare Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date specific, and while you can make comparisons based upon seasonal factors, it ultimately comes down to demand for your actual dates of stay... there could be a conference or some other event this year which was on a different weekend last year, as well the economy was on much shakier ground last year which negatively effected the hotel market. With the above noted, there is no telling if rates will go down, or up further, between now and your stay, but it is still too early to panic. However, while there may have been wins last year around this time ~$80, i think $80-$120 is more the range for this area. What is your maximum bid for this stay? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. guru533 Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 Thanks for the reply Thereuare and great website. I definitely use the links PRICELINE and Hotwire links when booking.I found a rate of $160 for a 4 star on Travelocity, although most of the prices for the hotels listed as hotels won through PL for downtown Vancouver are going around $220.I'm hoping to stay under a $100 a night if possible. this is also my first time trying PRICELINE so trying to also use it as a learning experience to see when is usually the best time to bid to get the best rates.
thereuare Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 When bidding 4* in this area you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. If you keep your maximum bid at $100 i would bid as follows:Select 4* Downtown...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if/when we can be of further help along the way.
