hokies416 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I just stupidly got bit and I'm upset both at my stupidity, and at PRICELINE for unethically not communicating expensive parking rates at the Pittsburgh Hyatt.I got what I thought was a nice rate for two nights and now see that my $55 rate is coupled with $25 per night parking. So the nice deal, sure isn't so nice given the parking.PRICELINE booking such is to me unethical. The fine print does say incidental charges, but $25 parking per day on a $55 room rate strikes me as far more than an incidental charge.Beware all......what looks like a good deal...may NOT be.
thereuare Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the results. While not of us like parking charges, they're based more inline with the hotel's conventional rate (as well as the surrounding area) and not the PRICELINE rate you pay (which is deeply discounted)... so it's not really fare to compare the parking charge based upon the PRICELINE rate you received. Yes, i understand it's a large percentage based upon the price you paid, but this hotel is located at the airport and uses the airport long-term parking for their guests, so you're subject to the airport's long term parking rates. :) While the total may be more than you had wish/expected to pay... it is likely a very nice deal for this property; Can you please add a reply to this thread with the date(s) of your stay so we can add this information to the topic title and enable your win to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Perhaps you might be able to find cheaper alternate parking in the area?Enjoy your stay. hokies416 Posted December 29, 2010 Author Report Posted December 29, 2010 I understand the airport 'tie-in' RE the parking....*NOW*.But trying the PRICELINE thing as a rookie, I would have figured that ethics dictated that they advise me of *THAT* level of parking fee...before putting me into the Hyatt. I bid $55. I didn't bid $80. I understand the sterotypical incidental charges like mini-bar, movies if used, phone calls, ie voluntary additional charges. All I ask is communicate that high parking rate and let me decide. A $25 per night parking rate goes far beyond incidental charges, but maybe that's me. Serious lesson learned! Priceline could switch me to another location and I'd be fine. They won't. I'll take up the discussion at the Hyatt later today when I arrive. I'm sure they'll be no satisfaction on that front either. As I said...stupid me. Lesson learned. I'm just a huge fan of ethical business practices...and I don't see the ethics of what just happened to me.dates of stay 12/29 - 12/31 As cool and easy/intuitive as the priceline site was, I could have made liberal use of that moving forward. But not a chance now!
hokies416 Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 Back from my couple of days at the Hyatt/Pittsburgh Airport and the feared parking charge rip-off (in my original post) wasn't nearly as bad as the Hyatt website led me to believe.Upon arrival a wonderful Hyatt front desk person advised me to park in the 'extended parking' which is one of 3-4 parking choices. Extended parking is $8 a day at the Pittsburgh Hyatt...very fair ... especially relative to my feared $24 per day.Loved the Hyatt Pittsburgh/Airport at $55!!!So an over-reaction on my part big-time.
thereuare Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Glad it all worked out well and your fears were unfounded... although do keep in mind for future purchases that parking and resort fees are extra, and you have to be aware of what type of fees are typical for the area.
