thereuare Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 There is a National Restaurant/Hotel-Motel Convention in town during this date... attendence of 70,000+ is likely driving up rates!Do you have a maximum bid amount and/or alternative zones/plans? Latitudes Posted April 9, 2005 Author Report Posted April 9, 2005 I'd like to max out at close to $100 per room if I can.Haven't tried The Loop zone yet. From what I've read, the 4* hotels in that area are not great. Do you think it is still worth a shot? Our flight arrives into ORD at 22:45 so maybe the airport area is a better option. (I managed to get the Hyatt Regency O'Hare Airport last November for $55).My traveling companion has never been to Chicago before and I thought that staying in the city would be nicer than the airport. FYI - our flight to Europe leaves the following evening at 21:00.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Well there is mass mass transit available from ORD to the 'heart' of Chicago, but it takes about an hour or so.I think i would sooner try the Loop zone as it makes accessibility to NMA much easier/quicker and also allows you the option to go back to your hotel during the day (if you stay out by ORD going back to the hotel for a rest is a 2hr roundtrip excursion).Rates are going to be very high so i'm not sure that you'll find success in the Loop either, but if i were in your shoes (pedning any contrary advice from locals) i would try the Loop before the ORD zone.Let us know what you want to do and we'll advice accordingly. Latitudes Posted April 10, 2005 Author Report Posted April 10, 2005 Gosh - I thought the train to the city would be quicker than one hour. Since our flight arrives at 22:45, does that make it about 00:30 before we could get downtown? Do trains still run at that hour?If so, then the Loop is an option. I could always wait the 72 hours and start rebidding in the high 80's. In the meantime, I'll book a fully refundable room near ORD just in case we get caught.
Latitudes Posted April 10, 2005 Author Report Posted April 10, 2005 I'm not sure there are any Priceline rooms available downtown for 5/22.I was reviewing my bidding notes yesterday and realized I never bid at River North. I tried it now and was rejected. Here is my bidding history:4* River North $85. Rejected.Added Lincoln Park $95. Rejected.Added Midway Airport $105. Rejected.Added Skokie $116. Rejected.Looks like it may be an airport stay after all...
Latitudes Posted April 12, 2005 Author Report Posted April 12, 2005 Success! Was successful in booking two rooms at ORD. Bidding History (continued from above):4* ORD $45. Rejected. Counter-offer for +$13. Ignored.Added Lincoln Park $47. Rejected.Added Midway Airport $49. Rejected.Added Skokie $51. thereuare Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 Glad it all worked out for you.Maybe not the ideal situation when you started, but it'll certainly work well and the price is right. Also great when you consider the hotel-direct rate is $200+ :) Enjoy your trip. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
