Gummyratz Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 My wife and I are going to NYC with friends and want to stay in the same hotel but our dates aren't exactly the same. We would like a 3-4 star hotel somewhere in midtown. Any suggestions on the best way to get the same hotels?

Gummyratz Posted December 17, 2010 Author Report Posted December 17, 2010 For each room we are thinking $150 or less per night. We are ready to purchase. We are already locked into flights because we found a special we couldn't pass up (220.00 per ticket including taxes, fees and luggage from dfw). I don't mind waiting to book if we could get better rates later, but I do have a $10 a night bonus from priceline through the new year.
thereuare Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 For the most part these are your options:Book two rooms for 6/7-6/10 and then have each couple purchase the solo nite of their stay in a separate purchase... using PRICELINE could result in a different hotel and needing to change properties for the first/last nite. Alternately each could purchase the hotel won direct for the first/last nite, but note that the hotel could be prohibitively expensive for the extra nite (or potentially sold-out which would force you to change hotels since no rooms would be available at any price)If you're willing to accept a bit of risk, you could run a HOTWIRE search for 6/6-6/10 for both one room and for two rooms... then run another HOTWIRE search for 6/7-6/11, again for both one room and two rooms. If you can find the same hotel (based upon the amenities shown before the purchase and any other clues HOTWIRE includes in the listing) to be offered on all four searches then you have a reasonable expectation to land the same hotel on two different purchases. You need to do all four searches for the following reason:Assume a hotel has offered one room available for 6/6-6/11... this hotel may be offered on a one room search for 6/6-6/10 and also for 6/7-6/11, which would lead you to believe that "you're all set", but given this scenario the same hotel would not be offered when you went to make the second purchase since you just purchased the one room which was available.Even if the same hotel is offered for all four searches you run the risk that it may not be offered after you make the first purchase, but at least checking for the same hotel appearing for both single and multiple rooms will minimize the chances of this occurring. If you search HOTWIRE do you see anything within your desired star rating and budget appearing for all four searches? What are your thoughts based upon the above options? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Gummyratz Posted December 19, 2010 Author Report Posted December 19, 2010 Doing the Hotwire search didn't turn up anything within our budgets for any search criteria. I think the first option you recommended, both for 6/7-10 then seperate booking for the other two nights would probably work best. When I make the purchase I will be sure to book through this website and post my results. Thanks,
