1st off --thanx for all the help over the years!

From Richmond to Las Vegas! :)

Wifey and I are going to NYC for some site seeing 1/13-1/16.

We want a fantastic room right in the middle of it all. I'd like to stay under $150/night. 4star would be great.

I'll go a little higher if need be. PRICELINE or HOTWIRE--makes no difference.

Thanx in advance!

thank you for the reply and the thread reference.

honestly, the zone(s) doesn't really matter as long as we are close to everything and it appears we will be based on the transtit systems in place.

I am up for suggestions as far as the zone(s) are concerned. My main goal is just a nice place to stay at a reasonable price.

tell me what to do and where i'll likely end up and i'll do it.

any and all suggestions would be helpful and I will use the links here to make the reservations.

thanx!

Is your budget $150 'all-in' including taxes/fees OR a $150 maximum bid (which comes to about $175 all-in)? I don't think you'll need to go as high as $150 for something nice, but there will likely be a difference between what is possible at $150 all-in vs. $175 all-in.

Let us know and we'll advise accordingly.

While I don't usually recommend staying in Times Square, HOTWIRE does have a 4* for $139 w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet, which could be the Millennium Broadway, Crowne Plaza Times Square or Intercontinental, although my guess is one of the first two.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

The HOTWIRE hotel in Times Square that AaronJB mentions above is an option... as is the $143/nite Empire State Buiding property with Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Internet icons. While these amenities are common for a 4* hotel in NYC, this does match previous reports for the St Giles The Court and that would be my best guess for this one, if this would be of any interest.

Since you don't necessarily need to be directly 'in the center of it all' but rather would like to 'have access to it all', and your goal is a good deal on a good hotel, i would also consider using PRICELINE as that will likely be a little cheaper than HOTWIRE. The trade-off is that with PRICELINE you are subject to any hotel in the zone you select at the star rating you choose, whereas HOTWIRE gives you the ability to take a guess as to what you might receive based upon the amenities shown before your purchase as well know the amenities offered as well as how previous users/guests have rated the hotel (based upon the 'hotwire user recommended' and Tripadvisor figures when shown)

What is more important to you for this stay, the lowest price OR having a guess as to what you might receive before your purchase?

I want to be told what to enter in order to get a specific hotel(s)

I think hot wire would be the best option - don't you?

I hate to use priceline and then get some less than stellar hotel just to save a few bucks.

On hotwire what is the:

$174/night Midtown East area hotel fitness, business center, restaurant, internet, spa, hotel?

$158/night Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area, fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, internet, hotel?

NOTE that you can't "make" a certain hotel appear on a given HOTWIRE search nor can you be 100% guaranteed of a specific hotel... all we can do is offer our best guess as to what you may receive.

With this caveat/disclaimer noted, assuming both hotels above are 4* rated, the MTE property appears to be the W New York while the Downtown matches the Millenium Hilton, so that would be my best guess for each.
