FanServiceHarHar Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Hiya hiya,This will be my first time to SF, and I've been trying to bid on a hotel for the last couple of days without success.I'll be in SF from 1/27 to 1/31 and would like to stay in the USE/USW area. I'll be relying on public transportation to get around. My budget is $80 per night, I also have a rewards credit with Priceline, which adds an extra $10 on top of my original bid.So to my surprise when I re-bid up to $80 ($90 including rewards) I was rejected. I've read a lot of threads where the winning bid was $90 or less on 4*.I just realized that Macworld event will be held during my stay, is that a reason I may have been rejected?Anyway, any tips and advice to pursue this is greatly appreciated.Thanks.
thereuare Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you've bid up to your limit already there isn't much more you can do other then:1) wait it out and try again2) lower your star rating3) raise your maximum bid4) choose another nearby zoneWas your bidding for $90 for a 4* property or was that at the 3* level?I'll add that HOTWIRE does have a 3.5* hotel in the USW-Nob Hill zone with:Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, BusinessThis matches both the Adagio and the Handlery Union Square so these would be my best guess for this one, and you may want to consider this as an option as well should this offering work for your plans. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and/or how it goes and we'll take it from there. FanServiceHarHar Posted December 13, 2010 Author Report Posted December 13, 2010 My bidding at $90 was for a 4* property. Is that HOTWIRE suggestion currently for $75?I read reviews for those two properties and it looks pretty good. Thanks again for the help.
AaronJB Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 When I search on HOTWIRE, I'm seeing the 3.5* USW-NH for $96; the price you see may vary.I'm seeing some compelling deals on Expedia - the Hotel Frank is $111, the Warwick $109 and the Galleria Park $101. Additionally, the White Swan Inn - a 3.5* boutique hotel w/free breakfast and a fireplace in the room, as well as evening reception (see details on Expedia) - is $113 - while a bit more, the coupon code FESTIVE10 takes $10 off per night, the hotel gets excellent (4.5/5 on tripadvisor) reviews (and looks like a really cute property) and offers some nice freebies for $103 per night after coupon. All are on sale. Additionally, coupon code FESTIVE10 should work for $10 off per night on the Expedia hotels. Please use the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Expedia links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 The USW-Nob Hiil property was priced at $86/nite on my search... your pricing may differ by a little bit as HOTWIRE fluctuates prices from one user search to the next. The other offers AaronJB suggested above, with the discount code, may be good options for you as well. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. FanServiceHarHar Posted December 14, 2010 Author Report Posted December 14, 2010 I used the PRICELINE link and bid 70 (80 with bonus) and got the Executive Hotel Vintage Court for 1/27 to 1/31.After reading reviews on yelp and tripadvisor, I'm pleased with what I got. Thanks again for the help.
thereuare Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Nice to see you got this stay settled as MacWorld will likely make this is busy time in the area.Glad to see you're pleased with the outcome and this will work well for your needs.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
