Islander7 Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 My son and I are going to Dallas for a sporting competition that he just qualified for. We're just staying one night. 2/17-2/18. We need to be near the Convention Center. Entered the conference center and it showed the location as Downtown - Market Center South. Searched for both 2 adults and 1 adult and 1 child (he's 17 and 6'4 so not really a child, but we need two beds. I have called hotels after reserving to ask for 2 beds and have had luck with 3 out of 4 reservations, but I'm still nervous. Since he's the athlete I'd be on the one sleeping on the floor :-)Hotwire shows one 4* hotel for $66.smoke-free, fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, laundry facilities, high speed internet, gold nearbyThe listing of hotels seems to show it as the Sheraton. But that's the main site for the event so it seems surprising that they would be listing rooms on Hotwire at the same time. I don't know Dallas at all so I'm concerned about ending up too far away. We aren't planning on renting a car and want to be within walking distance of the convention center. Unless no one walks in Dallas. Anyone have advice about where I might be. Thanks.
thereuare Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 The above is a match for the Sheraton Downtown so that would be my best guess for this one as well. This hotel does have over 1800 guest rooms, so unless the sporting competition is very big, there is a good chance that the hotel still anticipates vacant rooms and is putting them up for sale thru the opaque suppliers. If you're trying to secure a room with 2 beds i would search for 2adults/2children (even though you'll only be double occupancy) as this would give you a room to accommodate quadruple occupancy which should be a room with 2 beds (or at least one bed and a pullout sofabed or rollaway brought into the room). I searches for 2adults/2children and the same hotel, for the same price, appears to still be offered on a 2adult/2children search. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Islander7 Posted December 18, 2010 Author Report Posted December 18, 2010 Thanks for your help. It was the Sheraton. I ended up entering 3 adults, because that was bringing up an $89 price. I figured that might mean 2 beds instead of a bed and fold out. I made a choice to spend a little more to sleep on a bed. I still saved $26 over the discounted rate offered to the fencers. Thanks for the suggestion about entering more people I hadn't done that before and had mixed results when asking a hotel to change bed configurations. It's going to be especially useful when traveling with 2 teen-aged sons who don't share beds.I linked to HOTWIRE from your site and appreciate the help and info.

I entered 3 adults hoping to get 2 double beds rather than just a King and fold out bed. I'll call tomorrow to confirm that's what there will be. It was exactly the hotel I wanted, and exactly what was show on the list of identified hotels. Very helpful site. I used your link to get to HOTWIRE. THANKS!
