KW1984 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 I would like some help with my NYC bidding strategy for my hotel search, 4 nights, starting August 23 2011.I would like a 3,5* hotel, 4* would be great. Max $ 135 a night for a 3,5* hotel, max $ 150 for 4* hotel. Hotel needs to be in walking distance of times square (max 15-20 min walk) and a subway station (max 5-10min). The purpose of my visit is sightseeing/shopping (tourist from Holland).I am thinking about these area's (advise on area's based on the info above is most welcome); - Times Square - Midtown West - MSGThank you for your help!
thereuare Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Did you want to first try for a 4* up to $150 and then if rejected try for a 3.5* up to $135 OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Are you willing to lock-in a non-refundable reservation for an August stay at this time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. KW1984 Posted December 12, 2010 Author Report Posted December 12, 2010 Yes i would like to try a 4* hotel up to 150 first. I've no problem with booking the august stay at this point (or is it better to wait in order to get a better price?).
thereuare Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 I am thinking about these area's (advise on area's based on the info above is most welcome); - Times Square - Midtown West - MSGAt the 4* level there are no hotels in the MSG zone so if you only choose from these zones you're really only bidding on two zones. Is there a reason your also including CPS, MTE and/or ESB in your bidding as these usually work out quite well for the average visitor as well. You can certainly try, but my guess is that at the moment you're budget will likely fall short, regardless of whether or not you include all the zones above or not. Summer is usually a slow time of year in NYC so it's possible that rates may come down between now and your stay, but nobody can say with any degree of certainty (for additional info o this subject see the 'bid early or close to check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ)If you try to bid now (or not) i will also point out a 3.5* hotel on HOTWIRE in the Chelsea-MSG zone priced at $139/nite. This property shows NO AMENITIES which is consistent with previous reports of the Distrikt Hotel and the New Yorker Ramada Plaza. However, this offering also shows a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating (which is excellent) which would favor this property being the Distrikt hotel. Something to consider as it's just about within your budget and you 'know' that it's a favorable property based upon the high Tripadvisor user reviews. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Based upon the above let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. KW1984 Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 Using the priceline-link and strategy in the topic "4* NYC (MTE) Intercontinental Barclay, $145 ... 2/16/11-2/20/11" i have "won" the 4* The Alonquin hotel at $ 130 a night for 8/23/11 till 8/27/2011.Although it is soled as a 4* hotel the rating at Tripadvisor is 3*. But the reviews are good and the hotel website looks good, so i think it is a fair deal.Thank you for your help.
AaronJB Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Congrats on your success.Very nice deal for this property, which has a neat history and recently became associated with the Marriott chain (and seems to have started to appear as a win more often since joining the Marriott chain.)Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
