j-rad Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Looking to stay in NYC on 12/27/10 - going to a show at MSG, and want to go to Rockefeller center for some ice skating. So, looking to stay somewhere close by. 3.5* minimum, up to $160.. will this do? Any suggestions for bidding techniques would be appreciated. I see some people are getting The W and The Roosevelt for <$160 during this time frame.. are these good for the location I will be in? Looking for whatever has the biggest room.Thanks.

j-rad Posted December 8, 2010 Author Report Posted December 8, 2010 I checked the message and clicked the links as well. No, only looking for double occupancy. I just know rooms in NYC are on the small side, so I'd prefer hotels that are known to have larger than average rooms. Even average size is fine - just don't want a tiny little box.
thereuare Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 With PRICELINE you won't be able to choose the hotel you receive so there won't be any way to target a hotel with larger than average (by NYC standards) rooms other than by avoiding a zone entirely if they're known to have small rooms. In this light, i would avoid the CPS as it contains the Hudson Hotel which has some of the smallest rooms in the city. The other two hotels you mentioned, the W New York and the Roosevelt are both in the MTE zone, and these wouldn't be terrible, but certainly not the most convenient for getting to MSG and/or Rockefeller Center. I would sooner recommend the MSG, Chelsea, Times Square and MTW zones which should, for the most part, put you close to a direct access subway line to MSG and/or Rockefeller Center.I'm not sure if your $160 budget will be enough for these zones for these dates, but i'd start by taking a look at the zones and determining if you think they will be suitable for your needs. If so, we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow and take it from there.Based upon the above, let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. j-rad Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 I think any of those zones you suggested would be fine. Ultimately I want to be as close to MSG/Rockefeller Center as possible. If it's too much of a stretch for one of those zones with a $160 max, then I can open it up to MTE as well.Any bidding strategy is appreciated. Would like minimum of 3.5*, but obviously highest is best.
thereuare Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Did you first want to try for a 4* hotel in the MSG, Chelsea, Times Square and MTW zones OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better in any of these zones? In other words, did you want to try for a 4* first up to your limit before lowing your star rating and trying for a 3.5*... or would you prefer a lower priced 3.5* vs. a higher priced 4*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. j-rad Posted December 12, 2010 Author Report Posted December 12, 2010 I think 4* up to my limit first, then working down to a 3.5* and lower price if nothing comes up.
thereuare Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Of the zones i mentioned above, at the 4* level, only Chelsea, Times Square and MTW offer 4* bidding... and i would probably not include Chelsea as some of the properties in this zone might not be as convenient for your plans as you would like.To give it a go i'd try the following:At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and TS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. j-rad Posted December 13, 2010 Author Report Posted December 13, 2010 Slight change of plans.. instead of going to MSG for a show, we might be going to New World Stages (340 W. 50th St.).Any change to the zones based on this, or are these two (TS and MTW) still appropriate?
thereuare Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 At the 4* level I would add MTE to the mix since it would be easy enough to catch a crosstown bus (or taxi) to the west side... i'd therefore revise as follows:Select 4* MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and TS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and MTE and TS...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
