MDRPT Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 I have a layover in Miami, January 27-28 2010 between connecting flights and need to book 3 rooms for myself and extended family. I've looked at other rates people have been getting and started bidding at $53 for a 3.5* in Zone 7 (Miami International Airport) and have been rejected each time. I then rebid for a 3* for $1 less and this has not worked. I have tried every day the past 2 weeks and am up to $68 for 3.5* and $67 for a 3*. Wondering if booking multiple rooms forces you to spend more or if there is another way to bid when trying to get 3 rooms? Any feedback is appreciated.
thereuare Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 I don't think the number of rooms is the issue as much as we're currently seeing generally higher rates in this area during this time of year... no telling if rates will go down in the next month or two or continue even higher. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable property thru traditional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. MDRPT Posted December 7, 2010 Author Report Posted December 7, 2010 Holiday Inn is $128, Courtyard Miami Airport South $179, Courtyard West $159. I'm willing to go up to about $90, but wonder if I should expand my search area away from the airport. I read other threads about the # of rooms made available to PRICELINE and wonder if 3 rooms is over the alotted amount.
thereuare Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 As i mentioned above, i don't think the number of rooms is the issue for your stay, it's more likely the higher than usual rates... your current bidding is just about half price of the lowest quoted price above and well under half price of the other two properties you quoted.HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel for $99/nite which has not yet been identified, so it's unknown if this property would be considered 3* or 2.5* on PRICELINE, but it does show a pretty good 95% HOTWIRE user recommended as well as pretty good rating for the individual criteria that HOTWIRE tracks.I also think you can get what i'm guess is the Holiday Inn Doral for $99/nite should this be of any interest.Based upon the above you may be successful if you're willing to go up to $90, but it's up to you if you want to go higher now or consider other areas. While the Airport area would certainly be most convenient, i suppose it also has to do with how long your layover is if it's worthwhile to begin to take a cab outside of the immediate area. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.
