bsterben Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Im trying to go to SF for my gf's birthday and was wondering if getting a 4* hotel in USW, USE, SOMA area would be possible for 100/night after taxes and fees (<$80 bid)? travel dates are midweek 12/13-12/15.
thereuare Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! At current prices i would say your chances are low, although not impossible... lowering your star rating to 3.5* and/or increasing your maximum bid to $100 (before taxes and fees) would give you a higher chance of success, imo.If you want to give it a try let u know if you want to stick with a 4* minimum star rating and $80 maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow... or if you're flexible and can lower your star rating and/or increase your budget let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bsterben Posted December 7, 2010 Author Report Posted December 7, 2010 I first bid a 4* in USW and USE at 80----deniedthen i added SOMA and upped it to 90-----deniedi then added Embarcadero/Financial and upped it to 100----deniedso i started looking for alternatives on hotwire....nothing for the price i wantedi then checked lastminutetravel.com....success!i find a 4.5* (their own star system) for 95 a night (plus taxes and fees) in the Union Square/SOMA/Financial District with basic amenities....BUT when i look into the details of the hotel they tell me that the hotel is close to the curren theater downtown and has 16 floors and 372 guestrooms...so i google this information and find out that only the Clift Hotel has these specs. I go to the Clift site and find the Hotel incredible! Base rate for the dates i wanted was 325 a night!! So i book the hotel thru lastminutetravel.com and sure enough the Clift is the hotel i am awarded. If this info is any help to you then i'm happy to help.....but i would have to say that the bottom line and most important part of the story is to not only look at priceline and hotwire....there is always a deal....its all about how hard you look.happy hunting :)
AaronJB Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Thank you for closing the thread. Enjoy your stay.
Gallus50 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Good work, dude. Way to stay with it. The deal is usually on PL or HW, but you proved the exception to the rule. Have a great trip.
