Twilight Zone Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 We are planning a stay in NYC as a part of our vacation in May/June 2011Dates: 05/20/2011 - 05/24/2011 2 rooms (4 adults)Since we never visited NYC I would like to know what Priceline-areas are nice areas to stay in for a short visit to the city.We would like to be close to the major attractions, but do not like to pay more than we need to for a 4 or 3.5* hotelIf possible a maximum of $ 150 plus taxes, would be nice. For a 4* I think we are willing to pay $ 180 plus taxes. Some advice from people who are more familiar with the city would be helpfull. :)
thereuare Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Generally speaking most midtown locations will work fine for your needs, but there are some caveats to be aware of depending upon star level:At the 4* level MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB generally all work fine for the average user.At the 3.5* level MTW, TS, MSG and ESB are all fine choices and possibly the following zones depending upon your needs:MTE - some of the known 3.5* properties can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, so you have to decide if this is acceptableCPS - has the Hudson Hotel which generally gets decent reviews except for the notoriously small rooms... this is fine for some users and not fine for others, so you need to determine what is important to you for this stay. Are you read to bid now? If so, let us know which zone(s) are acceptable and we'll take it from there. Also, did you want to try bidding first for a 4* hotel up to your limit and then, if rejected try for a 3.5*... OR did you first want to try for the least expensive 3.5* or better up to $150, then if rejected continue up to $180 at the 4* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Twilight Zone Posted December 6, 2010 Author Report Posted December 6, 2010 Just to be sure about the areas:MTE = Midtown EastMTW = Midtowm WestTS = Times Square - Theatre DistrictCPS = Central Park SouthESB = Empire State BuildingI will study the areas and Hotel List. I think we will start bidding after christmas (have to talk to the people who are traveling with us first).I think we will start with the 4* up to $ 165, if not succesfull try for 3.5* up to $ 150, then continue up tot $ 180 at the 4* level. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Yes, you have the abbreviations correct but you left one out:MSG - Madison Square Garden :)Let us know once you're ready to bid and we'll have a look at current prices and suggest a strategy for you to follow at that time. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Twilight Zone Posted February 7, 2011 Author Report Posted February 7, 2011 OK We are ready to bid. I think I will start bidding for a 4* aiming for TS, MTW, CPS, MTA and ESB.Maybe start with TS, adding areas we would like to stay in to raise the bid.I deffinitaly do not want to stay outside Manhattan, so i am not sure if i can use these areas (like Brooklyn) and hope they did not just open a 4* hotel.I presume that bidding for the 4 nights at once will give a better price than bidding for 1 night and then prolong our stay.
thereuare Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 I think I will start bidding for a 4* aiming for TS, MTW, CPS, MTA and ESB.I assume MTA should be MTE (midtown EAST)?I deffinitaly do not want to stay outside Manhattan, so i am not sure if i can use these areas (like Brooklyn) and hope they did not just open a 4* hotel. You need to learn how to determine your re-bid zones. See this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and let us know if you're able to determine the FIVE re-bid zones you have when bidding the 4* level in NYC. BGarcia Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 It is a nice hotel, stayed there for 2 nights! Best thing is you are a few blocks away from Grand Central Station and right near 5th ave. Found the location to be wonderful.
