sfgiants13 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Hey all I'm new here and looking for some suggestions as I've never used priceline before. I've been looking for hotels and even 3 star ones are quite expensive. My girlfriend and I are going from March 19-24 as a last minute trip before we both get stuck with jobs after graduating college so I want to stay somewhere that's nice that won't break the bank. From what I've been reading here I can get 4* hotels for much cheaper than the going rate for 3* hotels. We don't have to be right on the beach but that would be nice. What would be a good price to start bidding at? I'm trying to stay under $150 (lower would be even better) but I'm willing to go a bit higher if I absolutely have to because every other decent hotel I was looking at was at least $200 per night. Any tips you have would be appreciated! :)edit: Also, if I use priceline, am I still eligible to gain frequent flyer miles if the hotel I end up with has is partners with my airline?
chrispee Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 about a week ago i won a hotel and got the sheraton waikiki for $131 (march 1-9), and somebody else on the board got the Hyatt for the same price (date was close, but i don't remember the exact details). if i were you, i'd start bidding in the $120 range, but somebody with more experience may chime in and give you some more solid advice. no matter what, you should be able to get a 4*+ in waikiki beach for under $150 i think. good luck!
thereuare Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages.PRICELINE (and HOTWIRE) reservations are not eligible for hotel or airline points. From what i can tell, your budget is not likely going to be much of an issue. If you go to PRICELINE and look at the zones for the Waikiki region, which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Assuming you're including the Waikiki Beach zone and others in your bidding, did you want to go up to your limit for a 4* hotel in th Beach zone before adding other areas OR is your goal the least acceptable 4* or better in any of the zones you choose?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there and advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click this PRICELINE link before replying. sfgiants13 Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 I would strongly prefer the Waikiki beach zone, but city central would be acceptable. I'm willing to go to my limit in the beach zone before adding other areas though. Thanks!
thereuare Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 At the 4* level you have THREE re-bid zones. Priceline Re-Bidding Explained(NOTE: Ihilani and North Shore are NOT re-bid zones at the 4* level)Select 4* Waikiki Beach...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120I suspect the above will not be enough, but with plenty of time on your side i'd start with this and if rejected, just post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. sfgiants13 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Report Posted December 6, 2010 Alright I tried the above and it didn't work. I used Diamond Head, airport, and city central as the re-bid zones.
thereuare Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 City Central is not a re-bid zone... using the method from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, please confirm the correct 3rd re-bid zone before trying to bid again. If you're confused or unsure post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
sfgiants13 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Report Posted December 6, 2010 My mistake. I was a bit confused on the process but I got it right now. Switch executive center with city central and those are my 3 zones. Still was declined though..
thereuare Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Yup, you got it right now :)24 hours after your last rejected bid you can re-try:Select 4* Waikiki Beach...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. AaronJB Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Sorry to hear that your bids have not yet been accepted. :)If you are hoping to stay under $150, I'd suggest continuing higher to $150 and if that is not accepted, then wait a week and try again up to $150 to see if any inventory opens up. If not accepted again, try again a week later up to $150. If the "ceiling" of $150 isn't accepted by the end of the month, then you can consider lifting the ceiling a bit higher.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 I'd use the following strategy to reach your $150 ceiling:Select 4* Waikiki Beach...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $143, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $147, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Good luck! sfgiants13 Posted December 8, 2010 Author Report Posted December 8, 2010 I got my $150 bid accepted by Outrigger Reef on the beach. No clue if this is a good deal or not but I'm doing my research now so I'll find out soon. Used the site's PRICELINE link of course. Thanks for the help!
