leeclayton2 Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Not sure how to start or how to get best deal. Don't really have a maximum. Just want to maximize amount saved.
AaronJB Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)This is really one of the slower times of year in NYC, and prices are certainly more reasonable than they are during the holidays. However, with NYC prices, there is also generally a realistic "floor", as well.In terms of MTW/CPS, I would start at $110, but you may be looking at approximately $130-140 for a likely winning bid. If $110 was not accepted, you would then try again using re-bidding at $115 if $110 isn't accepted, then $120 if $115 doesn't go, then $125, etc.HOTWIRE does have a $136 4* in Times Square w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet, which may be either the Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental. There's also a 4* in MTE w/fitness, restaurant, business, internet, tennis for $126, which may be either the Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental Barclay. You could also use PRICELINE to get a win cheaper in either of these zones, as well, although with PRICELINE, you may get any of the participating 4*'s in the zone if you bid 4*.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
leeclayton2 Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 What would the re-bidding be in this case? I read the re-bidding section and it seems to be changing sections? I was not successful on Priceline, and I can't increase my price directly. So exactly what do I do to not wait 24 hours?
thereuare Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Please start by reading your messagesIn terms of re-bidding, you need to know how to determine these on yourself as they need to be checked before every bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked. At the 4* level in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you've read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread and are still confused try the following:1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter New York City and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest tar rating offered n the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. What bid amounts have you already made? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. leeclayton2 Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 I already tried up to $125 with the two zones I am looking for, but can't do anymore until later tonight. Still rather confused about the whole process, and how I was able to rebid essentially with combinations of only 2 zones. Think I rebid 5 times with just 2 combinations.
leeclayton2 Posted December 2, 2010 Author Report Posted December 2, 2010 I tried going up to 135 with the 2 zones to no avail. Couldn't go any further until tomorrow night.
thereuare Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Still rather confused about the whole process...With more than a month before your stay, instead of bidding blindly, why not try to learn the process.. it will improve your bidding both now and in the future :)If you've read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread and are still confused try the following:1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter New York City and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone.
