drewds Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 Yes, I was looking for a condo-type unit for our stay and I couldn't believe the price that was being offered for that 'type' of unit for this time of the year. Last time we stayed at Mystic Dunes and were pleased with the location and the type of unit and payed only slightly more per night, but that was at low season. It's more the type of unit rather than the star rating I believe, we don't really require any top notch amenities, just a nice room at a decent price. Our budget is really closer to $1000 for this trip since it is during one of the high times of the year, but like any good bargain hunter we always try to get the most for our dollar. I'd be thrilled to get a decent room for ~$300 rather than around $1000, but realistically what do they really mean by 2* for a condo unit? Am I right that the star ratings for these type of things are more geared to the type and quality of amenities that the properties provide rather than the room itself?
thereuare Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 The star rating takes into consideration both the 'niceness' of the hotel as well as the amenities. For example, even if a Days Inn and a Marriott both offer a restaurant on the premises as the only amenity, they won't likely receive the same star rating. However, there is a fair amount of subjective-ness that plays a role in rating hotels.I'm usually not too optimistic about 2* rated properties, but since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to "look behind the curtain". If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay.
