Priceline Hotel: 3.5* Kansas City (Country Club Plaza) Raphael Hotel

I had won this property for 6-3-11 through 6-5-11 for $77 a night awhile back. I decided that I was going to add a night on the front end of my trip and was hoping I would get this property again since not only is it Trip Advisor's number 1 rated KC hotel, but I also would not have to switch hotels during my stay.

I bid $66 and was told that if I bumped my bid to $86 they would let me bid again right away. I said no and added the Sports Complex free re-bid zone and bumped my bid to $71 and it was accepted. This is an over 50% savings on the hotel's usual price.

The country club plaza is the swankiest area in KC and has some really nice hotels, but what surprises me is that the country club plaza does not have any 4 star properties according to Priceline. This seems odd since they call the Hotel Phillips downtown-crown center area a 4 star and that place is a dump. They also consider the Westin Crown Center and the Hyatt Regency 4 stars as well. I have stayed at the Westin and it is really, really nice. The Hyatt seems nice as well. But the risk now with bidding on a 4 star in the Crown Center area is that you will get stuck at the Hotel Phillips.
