I tried your link to PRICELINE since there had been reports of wins for the Hyatt Regency on Wacker Drive in the $60-70 range. I was unsuccessful after 5 attemps (using 4 free re-bid areas)for Millineum Park-Loop-Grant Park bidding up to $67. Now I think It might be time to try your HOTWIRE link. Please help me identify these choices:

4* North Michigan Ave

$75 - recommended by 80% hotwire customers

gym, restaurant, business ctr, hi-speed internet

4* Magnificent Mile

$79 - recommended by 90%

bed choice, non-smoking, gym, pool, restaurant, bus ctr, hi-speed internet

4* Loop

$88 - recommended by 90%

gym, pool, restaurant, bus ctr, hi-speed internet

3 1/2* Magnificent Mile

$71 - recommended by 90%

gym, pool, restaurant, bus ctr, hi-speed internet

3 1/2* North Michigan Avenue

$74 - recommended by 85%

boutique, gym, restaurant, bus ctr, hi-speed internet, golf

Last year we stayed at the Wyndham in streeterville and loved it. So I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks,Laura

Have you checked the Hotwire Hotel List for potential matches for any fo the above?

Since all of the HOTWIRE offers above are lower rated and/or higher priced then your $67 PRICELINE bid, why wouldn't your next move be to bid higher for a 4* hotel on PRICELINE (at least up to the prices of the hotels above), include the NMA zone in your bidding (as that's where some of the hotels above are located, and/or lower your star rating to 3.5* (as that is the rating of some of the properties above).

What is your goal for this stay?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases.

I'll also recommend the newer (it's about a year or two old at this point) Dana Hotel and Spa for $104 (half off sale) on Expedia, and then use coupon code FESTIVE10 for another $10 off = $94. Then, Expedia is also offering a $50 pre-paid mastercard sent to you 4-6 weeks after your stay (see Expedia to read all of the details/fine print.) If you take the $50 card value (which you get sent to you after the stay) and split it over 3 nights, that effectively takes the price down to about $78 a night. You have to book by the 29th to get the card.

In terms of HOTWIRE, the 4* NMA could be a number of different hotels - the Avenue, Westin Michigan Ave, Drake, Knickerbocker or Allerton. However, with the 3.5/5 tripadvisor rating showing, this would more likely be the Allerton or Westin Michigan Ave. Given the possibility of the Allerton, I'd skip it.

The 3.5* NMA would be a possible match for the Whitehall, which I wouldn't recommend. The 4* Loop would likely be the Palmer, which is a fine choice if you are looking to be in the middle of the Loop and in a particularly historic property.

The 3.5* Mag Mile would likely be the Doubletree; you can effectively get this for less via Expedia - $89 - $10 FESTIVE10 coupon = $79, plus the $50 gift card. Nice Doubletree, located just East of Michigan Ave.

The 4* Mag Mile would likely be the Sheraton, which is well-located but not a favorite hotel (personally.)

Overall, I just think the Dana deal via Expedia is quite good.

The Dana looked so enticing that I splurged and booked a corner king through your Expedia link. With the prepaid Mastercard offer, I estimate the cost will be $103/night. It was a very unique room (glass floor-to-ceiling on 2 walls), and service from the hotel staff was excellent. We had a great stay, and only wish that the bed had been a bit firmer and the weather a little less cold. However, we loved our visit, and are already planning our next get-away to Chicago in the spring. Thanks for your honest opinions regarding the hotwire hotels, and your thoughtful suggestion about the Dana. Yes, I would recommend this hotel to my friends. It was positively the most unique hotel at which I have stayed. Next time in Chicago, I must try this hotel's bar -- Vertigo. We're looking forward to returning soon. Thanks again -- Laura

Awesome! Sounds like you had a terrific stay (aside from the cold - and it definitely has been on the bitter side in Chicago lately), and very glad to hear you enjoyed this newer property. Please do let us know if you need help with your Spring stay! :)
