welshpaddy Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 HiVisiting New York City for the first time February 16 to February 20. For these dates Hotwire is giving a price of $149 for a 4* room in Times Square area; $254 for a 4.5* in Midtown East; $214 for a 4* in Midtown East; $193 for a 4* in their Midtown Central area; and $208 for a 4* in their Central Park area. Priceline's "regular site" is offering the Crowne Plaza Times Square for $191.The Priceline areas we are interested in are Central Park South, Times Square, Midtown East and Midtown West. I'd appreciate advice on a bidding strategy to win a 4* hotel in these areas through Priceline. Do you think it might be possible to win a 4* in these areas for $150 or less?Obviously we'd like to pay as little as possible but as we have booked the flights we accept we will have to pay what it takes. Thanks in advance for your help - its much appreciated!!!!
thereuare Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Please start with our PRICELINE link...Select 4* TS and MTE...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS and MTW...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTE and MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTE and CPS...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS, MTE, MTW and CPS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. welshpaddy Posted November 25, 2010 Author Report Posted November 25, 2010 Many thanks for replying so quickly.I used the PRICELINE link and followed the strategy you outlined up to bidding $140. This bid was also rejected. I decided not to bid up to $150 at this stage in the hope that prices might reduce as we get nearer February which I gather from other posts is generally a cheaper time to visit NYC. What do you think? Thanks again for all your help so far - much appreciated!
AaronJB Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 The issue - to some degree - may be Fashion Week, which ends on 2/17. Otherwise, with the exception of any events or conventions, Feb is usually a slow period. If you search for 2/17-20 on HOTWIRE, it is generally a tad (not vastly, but a bit cheaper in some instances) cheaper than if you search for 2/16-20.You do have some time, so you can wait it out, and you can try again starting from $90 and working higher once a week or so.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
welshpaddy Posted November 26, 2010 Author Report Posted November 26, 2010 Thanks - I'll try that and will let you know how that goes.

Total of $714.44 including taxes and fees for the 4 night stay. Dates of stay are 2/16-2/20. Many thanks for all your help and advice - much appreciated!
AaronJB Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this well-located MTE property, especially with Fashion Week going on during part of this period.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
