rileyray3000 Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 So far I've bid for Miami Beach and all three of the south beach areas for a stay from 12/4 to 12/8.First time around I went to 150 for a four star hotel. NothingSecond day of bidding I went to 105 for a 3.5 star hotel. Nothing. So I'm guessing if I go to 3 star at 100 then SOMETHING will show up tomorrow. But what exactly am I going to get? It's for my girlfriend's 40th birthday getaway so I don't want to give her a really nice Days Inn if that's at all possible. I liked what I saw of the Dorchester but it's at 2.5 stars and I'd worry about something else grabbing the bid before that one did.Thoughts?
thereuare Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can see hotels reported to the board at each star level in the Priceline Hotel List. Personally, I'd be a bit leery bidding the lower rated hotels in this zone since so many are 'small, independent' properties which, even at the same star level, can be of varying quality.Have you tried searching HOTWIRE where you might be able to take a guess as to the hotel you're receiving before your purchase, but even if not, you'll often be shown the percent of HOTWIRE users who recommend the hotel offered as well as a tripadvisor user review rating. While this additional information isn't flawless, it can at least give you a bit of confidence in purchasing a lower rated hotel if others have given it good reviews.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Take a look at the list of reported hotels pinned at the very top of this area. You will see hotels such as the Doubletree and Holiday Inn as Miami South Beach 3*s. Day's Inn wasn't on that list, but was on another nearby one as a 2*. When you've seen the list of hotels, you might then look under the Hotel Reviews tab to see how people like them. You might decide a 3* would work very nicely. Also, looking on the PRICELINE retail side (direct buy), you can at least get an idea of the type of 3*s that could show up via bidding. And what a nice birthday present!Romelle
