I am new to this website and already love it. Will be my first time to NYC and I am looking for a hotel in Times Square, MidtownEast, MidtownWest, or even CentralParkSouth. Hilton on 6th Avenue would be great. We are looking to spend no more than $200/night for 2 nights. Tried a few bids on priceline and did not work out. Any tips would be appreciated.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

This is the last expensive weekend (or two) of high season for NYC. It's possible that rates can drop between now and your stay, but based upon current rates, i think $200 or less is going to be tough for a 4* hotel in these zones for these dates.

Any back-up plan? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels?

We are willing to stay in a 3 star, but would prefer the areas previously mentioned. I found a Hampton Inn in TS that is around that price, but they are sold out. Hotels available are at least $300 and up. Would really like to keep it closer to $200.

Exactly which zone(s), star rating, and bid amounts did you make?

Rates are date specific, so if the hotel is sold-out, then there is no availability at any price.

Let us know what bidding info above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow, but at the moment i think this is going to be a tough win, even at the 3* level.

We have decided to move our NY trip to February because we couldn't find anything under $300 in mid-December. We would like to stay within walking distance to TS. Perhaps MDT or MDW? Looking for a 3.5* or better paying around $145ish. I've heard Hilton on 6th is lovely. We'll need two double beds so that might limit our options. Any bidding strategy advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Which zone are you referring to as MDT?

You're not going to be able to guarantee a room with two beds when using PRICELINE... only that the room will accommodate double occupancy. If you need a room with two beds searching HOTWIRE for more than double occupancy would be your better option, although this won't necessarily guarantee two beds, but more precisely separate sleeping accommodations, as the 2nd 'bed' could be a rollaway, pullout sofabed, etc. Would this work for your needs... or do you want to take the risk of using PRICELINE and receiving a room with only one bed (and potentially no room for a rollaway)
