starfoxx Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 Hi, My wife and I will go to NY for the first time. We are both in our late 20's and we are arriving to EWR on the 25th at 5.00pm and leaving on May 1st at 10:00amSince neither of us has ever been to NY we do not know where would be best for us to stay. Our budget is 110-120max per night and we want to see the city and do some shopping (maybe even go to a play if possible) but we are definitely not going to the bars since we do not want to waste half a day hungover.I have two questionsWhere do you recommend us to stay (please remember our budget is 110-120max per night)Also, do you think it would be better to look for something in priceline or would it be best to use hotwire?Thank you very much for your helpStarfoxx
AaronJB Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please provide the date/s of travel and we will be happy to try to ID.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
starfoxx Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 Yes, I forgot that.The dates are Apr/25 to May/1 2011Thank you
thereuare Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. As i'm sure you're finding, this is an expensive time in NYC, and a decent hotel in Manhattan itself for ~$120/nite isn't a high probability bet. (compounded by this being Easter vacation week so perhaps a few extra family vacations this week)The Long Island City hotel has not yet been reported to the board, but the recommended by 60% of HOTWIRE users should be a tip off that this is probably not the best of properties (and i'm not a fan of the location).Any chance you can come earlier in March or during the summer when rates are much cheaper? If not, you're going to have to make some trade-offs between budget, quality and location. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. starfoxx Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 Ok, thank you for the advice. What would you consider a decent budget in order to be able to win a bid in a central location during those dates? Thanks for the help
thereuare Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 For your original dates i'd guess you could get a 3* or better in Manhattan for ~$165 or so (before taxes and fees)... which comes to about $200/nite once you factor in NYC's ~14.5% hotel tax. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
