mknight1234 Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I know this board is primarily used for hotel bidding, but I thought I'd share my recent success with a car rental since I've used this board so many times to the benefit of stories from others at betterbidding.comBackstory: I live in sf and I decided on a last minute holiday trip up to tahoe. Although it won't be snowing when I'm there, tahoe has had a huge snowstorm and there will undoubtedly be snow on the ground. I wanted to rent an SUV in case there is a requirement for snowchains/AWD/4WD. I don't want to deal with the headache of wrapping chains around my tires, so all wheel drive is a must! Mid-size SUVs through directly renting through kayak is about $88/day or $180 total.Strategy: I checked on HOTWIRE first. A midsize SUV was $37/day or $120 total. So, using the PRICELINE link from this forum, I bid on a midsize SUV at $25/day and was rejected, but they offered me a one time offer at $33/day or $110 total. I took the deal and was awarded a midsize SUV with Alamo. :) It was marginally cheaper than hotwire and significantly cheaper than reserving directly through the rental companies. Hope this helps others!
