Priceline Hotel: Bidding Help NYC 12/3/2010 - 12/6/2010

So I decided that I would go on a impromptu trip to New York City before my Final Exams. I'm only going because Expedia Canada had a promotion that gave me $300 voucher on a flight and hotel package to New York City (You can probably Google search, but it is now only for Canadians leaving from Canadian destinations).

I have already booked a Hotel/Pod to check in Dec 3, check out Dec 4 at The Jane Hotel.

Now I am looking for something nicer in Manhattan looking for 2 star and above (anything with a private bed would do) with a budget of about $100 for Check in Dec 4. I'm not too certain but for the last night I was thinking about staying near the Airport (JFK) so anything cheap around there is fine.

And Bidding Ideas?

Thanks

With the Expedia package were you able to only purchase one nite hotel even though you're stay is for 3 nites... or will you simply not use the hotel for the last 2 nites of your package?

You can certainly try, but based upon current prices at this time $100 in Manhattan is not likely a realistic bid for these dates. Your budget may get you something near JFK or LGA, but neither has great hotels (so much so that i wouldn't bid 2* in these zones) nor an easy commute into the city. Which zone(s) are you willing to accept? Would you include Long Island City in your bidding?

I see from your previous post that you're under 21 years old, are you willing to take the chance that the hotel you receive may have a 21 and over policy and could deny your room if they choose to check your ID?

With the Expedia Package I only booked 1 night stay, and Now looking for 1 more stay between Dec 5-6.

Regarding the zones, any zones I am willing to accept as long as it is close to the city and there is easily usable public transporation transportation. If I increase my limit to around $120, would that be better?

I haven't had a issue in the pass checking in because of my age, but I honestly willing take a risk. For the price I am paying i'm not too concerned.

Thanks

I got in on the same Expedia offer as you for the same dates. After trying to get something on Priceline all weekend and failing with $100+ bids, I booked a Super 8 Hotel in North Bergen, NJ for $56 per night using code 67243. It's probably going to be a crappy hotel, but I'm only going to sleep there and it's only a 10 minute bus ride from NYC. Good thing about this deal is that you can cancel it 24 hours before check-in, so if I find something better I can cancel.

I have been doing some searches all night. I did find a decent hotel. I found someone on craigslist (I know it screams scam but...) He said that he can get me a room at the Hyatt Place in New Jersey for $59 bucks. Works out to be $100 for the night. I don't know if I should take it or not but time will tell.

Not sure how $59/nite comes to $100/nite, but even if not a scam, i'd speculate it's not legit... a BIG buyer beware! (imo)

I got the Expedia deal also and in NYC for Dec 3~6 also... Looking around, hotel is NOT cheap... wow

But heck, I wouldn't trust Craigslist. And honestly, you already saved $300.. you could spend a bit on hotel, EVEN in New Jersey
