posixchris Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Hey there,I'm looking for a room in NYC for the date mentioned above (so 9 nights in total). I'll be there with my girlfriend so it's 1 room, 2 adults. Areas I would bid on right now would be MTW, MTE, CPS and probably TS. Hotel should be at least a 3* better yet 3,5* category.Any suggestions about bidding price or comments about my selection of areas? Thanks a lot for your help - it's really appreciated!Chris
thereuare Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! At the 3.5* level or lower you need to be 'aware' of the following:CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which gets decent reviews except for the notoriously small rooms, even by NYC standards, which is ok for some but not for others... might be a little tight for a 9 nite stayMTE - couple of the hotels are up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, acceptable for some but too far for othersYou'll need to decide if either/each of the scenarios above are acceptable to you.Rates are not high for these dates, and depending upon your budget, you might be able to get a 4* hotel for a very reasonable price. Would you be willing to pay more for a 4* hotel vs. a 3.5* property? If bidding 3.5* any reason you're not including the MSG zone and/or ESB? (and even ESB at the 4* level??)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the info above and we'll advise accordingly. posixchris Posted November 20, 2010 Author Report Posted November 20, 2010 Thanks a lot so far! Well, then MTE is out of bidding, we don't want to spend half our stay with walking forth and back to the subway. Hudson Hotel is fine though, we can live with a small room! I would spend more on a 4* hotel but that totally depends on the general price for a 3 or 3,5* hotel for this date.MSG and ESB are fine as well! Actually I don't know why I left them out in the first place... :-)And of course I will use your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to purchase the rooms - but before that I need to know with what bids I should start in which area :-)Thanks a lot!!
AaronJB Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 What would be your desired max budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
posixchris Posted November 21, 2010 Author Report Posted November 21, 2010 Well, it'll be great to spend as less as possible. I was thinking about 90-120 if possible?!
thereuare Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 I'd put prices in the general ballpark:4* - $1253.5* - $1103* - $100Given these prices, what star rating would you like to try for first? Thanks for using the PRICELINE links for your bidding (please click this PRICELINE link before replying, thanks) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

thereuare Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. posixchris Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 Which are the possible re-bid zones? Thanks a lot for your help!
thereuare Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 You need to know how to determine these on your own as they need to be checked before every bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed... have you read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? Please read the previous link and confirm your re-bid zones with the board or if you have read it already and are confused just post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. posixchris Posted November 26, 2010 Author Report Posted November 26, 2010 I wasn't succesful with 110 USD for 3,5*... :-(What should I do now? Could you give me a strategy for a 3* hotel in the same areas? Thanks a lot in advance!
AaronJB Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I really don't think you're far off from a 3.5*. If you can extend your max budget to $120 per night, I think that may be successful. You could either try again up to $120 or try once a week up to $110 and see if anything opens up.I think you could probably get a 3.5* in MTE for around $100-105, but you risk getting one of the 3.5's farther East in MTE.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
