thereuare Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. This property has not yet been reported to the board and with just these two, very common, amenities for the area, i don't think we'll be able to gain much insight into this one. What are your needs for this stay? HOTWIRE has a 3* in the Chelsea zone for your dates for 'just' $189/nite. While it is a half star rating lower than the Times Square property above, it's also $80/nite cheaper, and gets very good reviews (4.0/5.0 Tripadvisor rating and 95% recommended by HOTWIRE users). Best guess for this property is the Holiday Inn Express MSG... would this work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. melmcc Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 Sorry about that, will keep all in one post. We are mostly interested in staying in the Times Square area, which i know does limit us. We bid on priceline for a 4* in that area up to $260 and had no luck, so we were looking at going down to lower stars. I will use the links above. Thanks!

melmcc Posted November 23, 2010 Author Report Posted November 23, 2010 I have never been to New York, my husband has. Our main reason for wanting to stay in that area was because there were many things we wanted to do at night were near that area. We don't HAVE to stay in that area, but are just having a hard time finding a good alternative. We want somewhere realtively centrally located and not really in a residential area. Midtown East I think is the next best option, but for either Priceline or Hotwire it seems fairly certain we would end up getting the W, which gets terrible reviews. Do you have any recommendations for another area which would fit the bill?
thereuare Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Other than the theatre, I can't imagine most of your 'things to do' taking place in Times Square... if you think otherwise please let me know some of the things on your itinerary so i can get a better feel for which hotels/locations might work best for your needs.NYC is so big, yet so compact, that from most midtown locations you can walk or subway to just about anyplace else in midtown in 10-15 minutes... location, within the midtown area, is not that much of a concern, imo. However, since you mentioned MTE, at the 3.5* and under that zone does become a bit of a problem in that some of the hotels can get pretty far east and be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway (as well the eastern most parts can get fairly residential). While not a 4* hotel i'll re-iterate my suggestion above of what i believe to be the Holiday Inn Express MSG on HOTWIRE for $189/nite... includes breakfast, gets very good reviews, 2 blocks from Penn Station, and multiple subway lines within a 4 block radius. If/when you do need to get to Times Square it would be about a 5 minute subway ride or a 15 minute walk if you choose to walk it (or ~$6 taxi ride w/o traffic). Based upon the offerings i think this is the best value and bang for your buck, but ultimately it's your stay and you need to feel comfortable with the area you choose.Thoughts? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
