rtwin Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 FYI... list of recent bid attempts. In case this helps anyone who's reading my context is: I've got time and plan to use mileage points for most of my stay, so I started off real low. Just need to grab one weekday night during Xmas week when I fly in. Trying to avoid Orchard (too many tourists).5* bids City Hall / Marina Bay, Riverside, Bugis $91 City Hall / Marina Bay, Bugis $90 City Hall / Marina Bay $854* bidsCity Hall / Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Riverside, Bugis $55City Hall / Marina Bay $55City Hall / Marina Bay, Riverside, Bugis $53City Hall / Marina Bay, Bugis $51City Hall / Marina Bay $50I've noticed that some of the 4* hotels are really only 3* hotels and the prices will get down below $115 so I'm trying not to get above $80 all in. Maybe unrealistic, but we'll see.Hope that helps. I'll keep posting as I go.

rtwin Posted November 17, 2010 Author Report Posted November 17, 2010 Bidding for 12/20-12/21I'll probably concentrate on 4* from here on out. Thanks for the added info Giblet.BTw... just bid $62 for 4* (City, River, Bugis, Orch) and no luck. After taxes that hits $80 all-in.
thereuare Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Rates don't see out of the ordinary for this nite, i'd continue to try for a 5* just before each of your 4* bidding attempts. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us udpated and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. rtwin Posted November 18, 2010 Author Report Posted November 18, 2010 Just tried the $62 bid for 4* in Riverside again, but no luck.Went another route and bid on 3*. I didn't want to end up at Fort Canning Lodge so I'm leaving City Hall area out:Riverside $30Riverside/Bugis $32FYI... I know if you drop to 2* in Bugis you will likely end up in one of the "Fragrance" hotels which can be booked for $40 online anyways. I'm a little worried that Priceline will decide that one of those hotels is actually a 3* and stick me there so I kept the bids low.I will take another pass at 3* and 4* during the week.
rtwin Posted November 19, 2010 Author Report Posted November 19, 2010 More failed bids for you:3* City Hall / Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Financial District, Riverside, Bugis $373* City Hall / Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Bugis, Riverside $364* City Hall / Marina Bay, Riverside, Orchard Road, Bugis $66
rtwin Posted November 22, 2010 Author Report Posted November 22, 2010 And more failed bids:3* City Hall / Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Financial District, Riverside, Bugis $533* City Hall / Marina Bay, Bugis, Riverside, Orchard Road $493* City Hall / Marina Bay, Riverside, Bugis $45Note that Bugis 3* is significantly lower in estimated price than the other districts (likely because at 3* the Geylang area starts to factor in).
rtwin Posted November 30, 2010 Author Report Posted November 30, 2010 Last post:Bid $29 for a 2* hotel anywhere on the island = no luck. Decided that I'd rather go with Hotels.com and book a fully refundable night at a 2* hotel in Bugis for $38 ($43 after taxes). So that makes this following track record of my highest, failed bids by * level:$91 for 5* anywhere$68 for 4* anywhere$57 for 3* anywhere$29 for 2* anywhereDates were 12/20 - 12/21.Good luck to everyone else! :)
